    St Pancras timings for Eurostar

As it turned out, I arrived at the Thamslink platforms at 1620 and was inside the departure lounge at 1635. I must have been lucky as we then had to stand for an hour and a quarter waiting for boarding And left on time at 1804

    St Pancras timings for Eurostar

Replying here rather than starting a new thread. On Friday I’m arriving at Waterloo at 1550, due to tfl strikes thinking of walking to Blackfriars and using thameslink to get to St Pancras Hoping to arrive at St Pancras at around 1630 for the 1804 Amsterdam. For those that have used StP...

    Island Line Upgrade updates

Why all the poles on the platform at Sandown?

    Island Line Upgrade updates

Interesting set of photos. At Sandown on the up platform it looks like they haven’t raised the platform for its full length. I wonder if this will be completed or are they only doing enough to fit a train

    Most hated non-UK station

Agreed the new Belgrade is awful. I actually like Kobanya Kispest though, it’s real.

TRIVIA: Bus and tram networks with no ticket machines or on-board ticket sales

Last year I tried to travel on a WeGo bus from Niagara Falls to the railway station. Driver couldn’t issue tickets or accept payment. I later found out you had to buy from an outlet only. Luckily, it was the last bus of the day so the driver let us on for free.

    GTR Gatwick Staff Problems....

So last week I was travelling on this ticket http://www.brfares.com/#faredetail?orig=WTW&dest=CRW&rte=602&tkt=SVR on the return leg from Crawley I broke my journey at Gatwick Airport and intended to resume it several days later. On arrival at Gatwick the barriers rejected the ticket so I showed...

    Southampton to Gatwick advice

Thanks for your replies. So If I go outbound via Barnham and back via Clapham then the cheapest would be to buy a route Barnham return then ask for a change of route excess on the way back. Would I just buy this excess from the ticket office at Gatwick? Will they issue it without fuss?

    Southampton to Gatwick advice

Hi, I need to travel from Southampton to Gatwick outbound on Saturday 19th October and back on Sunday 3rd November. I was thinking of taking the cheaper route via Barnham both ways but noticed its bus replacement on Sunday 3rd so considering returning via Clapham. However SWR is on a reduced...

Island Line Railway - current state and the future

I can’t believe that corridor connections haven’t been identified as an issue with the new proposals. As a regular user, it is easy to see that the usage figures are low because so many fares are not collected. The guard is stuck in one carriage between stops which makes it so difficult. I think...

    Island Line Diagrams

They do swap the units during the day. The other day I was at Ryde St John’s and boarded a southbound service that started from the bay platform, rare track. Passengers from the pier head had to transfer sets. You might get lucky! This was about 3pm

Experiences of European Cross Border Travel

On my 2015 Interrail we travellled from Amsterdam all the way to the Slovenian border without a passport check. We travelled via Belgium, Lux, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and then into Slovenia. After this, lengthy checks were made between Slovenia and Croatia, Croatia and Hungary...

    Weekend in MAV land.

We headed via metro 1/3 to Szell Kalaman Ter where we boarded tram 59 to the bottom of the cogwheel railway. This took us up the hill to the start...

    Weekend in MAV land.

Just a quick trip report of a trip I took for a long weekend in Hungary in search of some locomotive haulage. I wasn't dissapointed! Friday After travelling up from Southampton the evening before, I had decided to stay overnight in the Houslow travelodge. This seemed much more competitivly...

    Interrail isn't worth it

Yes Interrail is excellent in the correct countries. 3 days bashing in Hungary scoring 9 diesel locos in one day for something crazy like £47? Much better value than a railtour here.

Lack of entries list on buses at rallies

The one advantage we have for IW Beer and Buses is that the vehicle owners have to book and pay for their ferry crossings and accomodation a long way in advance. This means we know what our entry list is by around July and can then publish it on our website and plan the vehicle allocations. If...
