TfL staff oyster - NR validity

As I understand it, that's because there's a longstanding difference of opinion with Avanti who didn't like the arrangement they inherited, with the added compication of pick-up/set-down only stops. The unofficial compromise seems to be that if you've been TfL staff since before BR privatisation...

    LT Museum, Covent Garden

The annual pass is likely to be pitched at pretty much the going rate for a single visit, in line with admission prices for comparable visitor attractions likely to appeal to a typical tourist or family (see Belperpete's comment), as opposed to us enthusiasts. Allowing repeat visits for a year...

Trains skipping stations when they are less than 5 minutes late

Worse still is a driver being told to skip stops then being held at a signal in a platform the train was meant to be skipping. Happened to me once heading London-Horley and having resigned myself to doubling back via Gatwick then spent 5 minutes at Horley unable to get off.

    Using 5-10 zip oyster card

That wasn't the original intention. There was some overthinking when the wording was last updated, to address concerns that just referring to travelling with an adult could be misinterpreted to mean that the adult also didn't need to have any form of travel document. Being peripherally involved...

    Carousel Buses (Go-Ahead group)

I'm not much of a flyer, but if I were catching a plane I'd be so worried about missing it that I'd probably allow so much contingency time I'd be fine if the once-hourly bus didn't run and I had to catch the next one!

Fare oddities(?) to / from Sunderland

A cross-London ticket should normally have the LU leg sandwiched between two NR legs rather than ending on LU so wouldn't be technically valid by that route; it should be to U12. Noting though that all tickets Sunderland-Finsbury Park have the Maltese cross, I suspect it's a pragmatic solution...

Welwyn Garden City to Heathrow Airport (T2) advice

The 724 is currently rather less crowded as Hatfield Uni term has ended.

Staff duty travel passes - is their usage monitored?

It must be pretty common - as baz962 mentions - for staff to get through a gateline using a pass which opens the gates, when they are actually travelling using a different pass/ticket that needs gateline staff intervention to be allowed through (or even just for the convenience of tapping on a...

    KWVR - Infrastructure Upgrades Funded

The word "commuter" is often used in the media just to mean normal passengers. They're possibly envisaging the KWVR being used by tourists going to Haworth or by shoppers, as much as people heading to work at 8am and home again at 5.

What does London Group TfL mean on a season ticket

"London group tfl" might well be an outcome of the fix, but I'm pretty sure it isn't a necessary outcome and only says that because someone typed text intended perhaps for internal reference in a public-facing field. It could just as easily say something helpful (or at least familiar) such as...

TAP2GO - Works well from Surrey to London , but not so well to say Portsmouth. It was over double.

More details of the exact journey times would help, along with a screenshot of the SWR "My transactions" info which should give at least a clue. I can't see a logical charge lower than £23.00 for the Portsmouth journey, and anything with an odd 5p looks like a Railcard or Priv fare so wouldn't...

Upgrading TfL Zip Card age 5-10 to age 11-15

When I worked near the team who set up the various Photocard schemes, several of them had children of the relevant age. You'd sometimes see their offsprings' photos on example Photocards, and they were perfectly aware of "real life".

Tickets cheaper online than at ticket machine?

Rounding rules is definitely one reason; the change wasn't well communicated. LU POMs also don't take 5p pieces so an odd 5p is rounded down even if paying by card. Another reason is that for some journeys there is more than one agreed way to set the fare. Anything involving a section of line...

What functions cannot be performed by Ticket Vending Machines, and why?

No TVM can use fuzzy logic to work out what a passenger really means when they ask for a ticket to London (though that will matter less if Travelcards do get abolished), or patiently explain the bits of any ticket's conditions that are likely to be relevant to the passenger's plans without...

Outrage as London tube driver whips up passengers to chant pro-Palestinian slogans

The audio in the online clip really does sound far more like someone using a loudhailer in the car than the train PA.

How is it decided whether a station should be moved inside the TfL Travelcard/Oyster (or other PTE) area?

So was I for Essex. I can't see any benefit to TfL from putting the Epping branch into Zone 6; it would just reduce the extra income they were getting anyway from people driving from bits of Essex to the end of the Central line rather to their nearest National Rail station with a poorer and...

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway News & Updates

For me, good connections at Duffield don't matter so much - and planned ones can easily go astray anyway - if there's something to help pass the time while waiting (watching the run-round, light refreshments/a shop/somewhere warm to wait and a welcoming face). What I don't want is to arrive at...

Cross London (Maltese cross) tickets being rejected by Underground barriers

I'd say it's the ticket coding being wrong then. A change to the data held by the gates would affect all cross-London tickets used at that station, and gateline staff at Paddington and Euston Square would be howling pretty quickly.

Cross London (Maltese cross) tickets being rejected by Underground barriers

(edited following previous post) This sounds odd. LU gates don't actually analyse the journey, just giving one journey between any 2 LU stations on the cross-London list; it keeps the coding simpler and LU don't lose out if you do a different LU leg from the one relevant to your full journey so...

National Rail tickets on Elizabeth Line & Exits

In addition to the above advice, there is anyway a longstanding arrangement allowing passengers with cross-London tickets such as yours to end the Underground part of the journey early then pay separately/walk to the onward mainline connection and continue the journey. Even if the LU staff...
