2017 - time to get out!

Ilkley is somewhere I've looked at. Not somewhere I've been before, so will tick off some stations too!! Thanks so far guys, some great ideas.

2017 - time to get out!

Thank you. Like I mentioned, I don't mind sitting on a train for 2-3 hours, stopping at a pub for a bar meal or something then jumping back on the train home. After 2016, it's a day out for us both and beats just being sat at home or doing daily train runs to hospitals.

2017 - time to get out!

After spending most of 2016 going to and from hospitals for both my wife and I, we've decided now that the vast majority of treatment/physio/operations are done that we want to get out and about a lot more - but further afield than just Scarborough where we live. We have a mix of fatigue and...

    Last train of 2016

Quite surprised they run so late - thought they always said the network shut down early on NYE but there seems to still be a lot running late on.

2015-16 Estimates of station usage published

Cheers for posting - like looking at the various stats. My local station (Scarborough) has a 1.48% usage increase, and Seamer a 14.85% increase - the 26k interchanges I'm guessing is something to do with that?

    Delayed - would you rather......

Assuming you know you are going to be delayed, either due to a late arrival or departure - let's assume it's down as 24 minutes when you set off from your destination, and delay repay kicks in at 30 minutes - would you rather arrive that 24 minutes late, or for the sake of 6/7 minutes, and a...

    Line closed York-Malton-Scarborough (5/12)

Problem under investigation at present, but a friend of my wife is on the train (1722 1E91 LIV-SCA) says the train has hit something. Roughly 5 minutes through York. Bustitution for other services between York and Scarborough.

    Statistics Question

Basically, yes. Once you get to Pick 5 you know you are guaranteed a match as you know where both 8s are. They then come out of the grid. Ditto Pick 6. At Pick 7, you don't have a match guaranteed, hence why there's an incorrect match. Obviously there's a chance at random it could be correct...

    Statistics Question

You need to complete each grid, and basically record the number of incorrect guesses - and it is the probabilty of 0-9 incorrect guesses we're interested in. For example, say your grid was: 112233 445566 778899 Say you draw from top left and move from left to right, you would go...

    Statistics Question

Absolutely nothing to do with trains, actually a study one of my friends needs help with. Basically, imagine two sets of cards - each numbered 1 to 9, so 18 cards in total laid in a 3x6 grid - assumed at complete random It's a 'match the pairs' game. So you pick a card at random, then pick...

    Season Tickets and/or Railcards

    So..... Accrington - Preston (day return w/RC) £9.60 x 65 = £624.00 + £326.40 = £950.40 Accrington - Preston (season ticket) £399.80 x 2 = £799.60 + £326.40 = £1126.00 Accrington - Bolton (day return w/RC) £11.20 x 65 = £728.00 + £326.40 = £1054.40 Accrington - Bolton (season ticket) £500.00 x...

    Season Tickets and/or Railcards

Wow - I expected it to cost a decent amount, but nowhere near that much! I'm guessing those prices are each too? We can get some of the cost covered, but it won't be all of it. Need to have a proper think about this then........

    Season Tickets and/or Railcards

My wife and I may have to make a daily (M-F) trip from Scarborough to James Cook in the near future (early December) for 3 months (65 days). I think all travel should be off-peak. There is an alternative of travelling to either Preston, Bolton or Chester and staying with family in...

    World Bridge Day

Forth Rail for me. Was impressed with Conwy Suspension when I saw it a couple of years back. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Beipanjiang Railway Bridge looks quite impressive - a decent arch on it! Must admit, the Bernina Express was very impressive! Especially Landwasserviadukt...

    Trivia - worst maintained stations

Definitely would have said Wakefield Kirkgate too, but yes - it seems to have improved of late. Keighley is another in need of a lick of paint too! Gainsborough Central - it's one they seem to try with but the locals keep it difficult with flytipping and graffiti from what I see.

    Trivia - worst maintained stations

Which, in your opinion, are the worst maintained stations on the main network? Either from an infrastructure point of view, or just general maintenance - obviously stations vary significantly, so let's split them between: Urban, Rural, Staffed and Unstaffed Came across the idea from a...
