Freight train derailed at Lewisham 24/01

With what kind of (ballpark) timeline could we expect to find out what the cause of the derailment was?

Freight train derailed at Lewisham 24/01

They're know as "alternative facts" now :p

Freight train derailed at Lewisham 24/01

Even if it was due for replacement, network rail may not have been in a position to do so just yet if the materials they need are not available etc. So if it wasn't damaged before and there was a risk of damage it could still be a last resort if no other options type situation? (I'm not any...

Freight train derailed at Lewisham 24/01

If the PW is already wrecked anyway then it probably doesn't much matter from that perspective? Unless you meant for stability of the crane rather than damage to the PW?

Any plans for a 465 refurbishment?

They feel much younger than 319s which are, I believe only a few years older

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

Good point. Ignore my previous comment

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Or just motorise them and people get a wet lap if they ignore the plentiful advanced warnings! (Won't save on weight of course) Seriously though I think all this talk about tables is nonsense. It's such a minor issue compared to far more important things such as reliability. If it really...

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

I got on one of those yesterday. Apart from the outside colour and a bit of carpet near the doors they were pretty much identical inside so far as I could tell. I can see how they could cause issues in the scenario you describe. Of course pretty soon all the trains will be the same colour...

Man in tree leads Southeastern trains to halt service

That could allow him a new escape route - on the roof of a train

Northern rolling stock changes post electrification

Most if not all of the FCC trains (319 and 377) I saw yesterday were sans branding

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

Just a small observation but aren't most "laptops" designed to be used while they are resting on one's lap?

    Trying to understand 2Z89 today

Thanks for the info - that all makes sense So I'm guessing the reason the covering service only went as far as Blackfriars is one of: * The unit (probably 465) is not cleared in the core. * The driver has no route knowledge in the core (SE drivers only sign as far as Blackfriars correct...

    Trying to understand 2Z89 today

This is just a curiosity for me, trying to understand some odd service pattern that I randomly spotted. The NRE app showed a delay from my local station (SMY) of the 13:22 to Blackfriars. This service doesn't normally exist but in this time slot there is usually a Kentish Town train...

    Cycling on the train...your thoughts.

As both a London commuter and a cyclist I have mixed views on this. I've taken my bike on the train 2 or 3 times. I wouldn't dream of trying to do it in peak times. Currently I believe most (all?) London TOCs ban non-folding bikes during peak times. Personally I think even folding bikes...

    Thameslink/ Class 700 Progress

I thought the seats in the STD portion of the 700 mockup were rather more comfortable than those on the 377 I use currently.

(Trivia) Lookalikes working on the railway!

There is a guy at Vauxhall station (or at least there used to be) who could be likened to a character from Thomas The Tank Engine

imo acceleration of 319s is poor compared to other units that operate on my lines (465s, 375s, 377s etc). But then you'd expect that since all those other units are younger than 319s. No idea what they are like once they get onto OHLE though.
