Ayr Station Hotel Fire 28/05/2023 and now on fire again 25/09/2023

Seems realistic; about the same length of time Finnieston-Rutherglen was shut for repairs after the catastrophic flooding in December 1994 (8-10 months). Wouldn't be surprised if that date also slips back a bit further.

Collision of cargo ship with, and collapse of, Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (26/03)

We can only pray that this is the case, I'm not exactly optimistic though. Either way, I can scarcely imagine what the moment of collapse felt like for those who were on the bridge, especially if they saw the ship headed straight for the pier and how quickly it went down once hit.

Collision of cargo ship with, and collapse of, Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (26/03)

Jeez, that was awful to watch. For it to happen at night will only hinder rescue and recovery efforts. Looks like a virtual repeat of the Sunshine Skyway disaster in Tampa Bay nearly 44 years ago, at least from what we can see from the footage. But in that case, only one span was hit. The...

    Blue Peter is back!

Footage of the October 1994 Durham incident, shot by someone at the rear of the train. Truly horrendous, no matter the cause. Can't imagine how devastated her volunteers and owning group were when this happened. She's looking incredible now though. BR Express Blue really suits her (as it did...

Will we ever see a replacement for Concorde ?

Late reply, but yes. Without the Flight 4590 disaster and 9/11 and it's aftermath, Concorde likely would've been retired by the late 2000s at the latest. Both of those events merely hastened the process.

    Scotrail 3-coach EMUs

Admittedly, the main reason Helensburgh Central leapt out at me in this regard was due to the Class 303 farewell run from Bellgrove. When it terminated at Platform 1, a 334 was already stabled on the same platform. Even allowing for a bit of space between them, all 3 units could just about fit...

Ayr Station Hotel Fire 28/05/2023 and now on fire again 25/09/2023

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, sad as I am to say it, if it turns out a wholesale demolition is what's needed.

    Scotrail 3-coach EMUs

Platform lengths dating back to at least the 50s/60s, when the 303s were brand new. The steam locos and coaches the 303s directly replaced were often arranged into rakes that came within the length of two 303s working in multiple, thus the platform lengths were largely left alone. Subsequent...

Unusual Station Name Lettering, Early 1960s Glasgow Electrics?

Is this what you're referring to? The photo is in black and white, which doesn't exactly help matters, but the 303 (the plug-doored testbed unit 303035; note how the doors are flush with the bodysides) is clearly in original 'Caley Blue' without yellow warning panels, which helps narrow the date...

    First Generation DMU Fires!

Interesting is certainly one way of putting it!

Would this be what you're thinking of? Apologies to @D6130 for quoting him verbatim:

    First Generation DMU Fires!

Trying to work out the logistics of this diversion in my head so just bear with me here lol The only other direct route between the two would be via Carmyle, and that line obviously wasn't wired in 1999. Based off that, I assume the freightliners were piloted by diesels between Polmadie &...

    First Generation DMU Fires!

101688. The last 1st-gen DMU lost to a fire I think. A miracle it happened while the unit was running ECS from Mossend back to Whifflet when it went up. Caused all manner of chaos though, given where it went up and how severe the fire was!

    Glasgow Subway new stock

Cost grounds, especially in the case of the 1977-80 refurbishment. It was overall cheaper to retain and repair/refurbish/upgrade the tunnels and track gauge 'as they were', as conversion to standard gauge as per the Underground would've drove up the cost of the project significantly. Any...

Trivia: Rare and unusual bus and coach types

On the subject of the B7L, would the 10 East Lancs Nordic tri-axle low-height deckers built for First Glasgow fit the parameters of the OP?

Horrendous Hull Trains East Coast ride

They look the part, but the ride quality leaves much to be desired, as I found out when I travelled on one between Glasgow Central & Manchester Piccadilly en-route to visit a close friend in the East Midlands for a couple days in November 2022. I should've expected as much given they're CAF, but...

Trivia: Rare and unusual bus and coach types

First Glasgow was one of them, withdrawing their last 5 Wright-bodied B7Ls in August 2019, while their last B10BLEs - virtually all remaining examples of both were part of the same order delivered between October 2001 and March 2002; the B10BLEs were First's last examples of that type ordered...

Farewell B.R 'circus horn' and Emma Hignett

The first really clear recording of this I've ever heard. Contrary to most, that was a wave of nostalgia right in the gut for me. When exactly did Central lose this chime? I seem to remember it lasted long enough to see the introduction of the 380s in 2010-2011, but that is likely a false...

    Freightliner 70012

No evidence of cab drooping at either end is the biggest giveaway in that image of the loco in grey, so yes, it's clearly a pic of 012 (more likely to be one of it's FL classmates) not long after rolling out the factory newly built.

    Freightliner 70012

I have been aware of it's use as a testbed/super shunter for GE for a while (a few threads have popped up in the past), but this the first time I've actually seen it pulling anything. GE did quite the job straightening it out, but that drooped cab is a hint of just how badly battered it was.
