    Bizarre prices from Birmingham

Think that +1 just means it’s CrossCountry +1 other company :)

    Bizarre prices from Birmingham

Perhaps related - £404.50 is the price of a single and £809 matches 2x that exactly… Your updated post hits the nail on the head, albeit it’s Avanti ;) Websites such as trainsplit.com are able to offer substantial savings in situations like this.

Best value Sleeper fares from Fort William to Crewe 22/04/2024 and minor Rover query

Even cheaper if they’re both getting off at Crewe :) £135.60 appears to be the equivalent fare.

Leeds man jailed for 22 months for defrauding LNER (and perverting the court of justice)

My reading was that he wanted unpaid work to be considered, to reduce the likelihood of a prison sentence following his guilty plea for fraud. Probation/hospital found him unfit but he altered the letter.

Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

Arrived back at Liverpool airport this afternoon, got to South Parkway. Prerecorded (I assume) announcement in the station that “Merseyrail do not accept digital tickets from 3rd party retailers and they must be printed” … played precisely whilst the Merseyrail member of staff let me through...

Northern complimentary pass - Manchester Victoria to Whitby

Yes, you can buy Advance tickets on another operator to bridge the gap. Many forum members including me have done just that, and Northern’s guards see these tickets every day, so they’ll be used to it.

Merseyrail to introduce Oyster-style ticketing from the Autumn

I’ll believe it when I see it  Those useless Walrus cards have been around for literally a decade and the amount of progress made in 10 years is embarrassingly crap.

    CrossCountry E-tickets

I’ve just had a look at booking both of your journeys separately. Both are enabled for e-ticket. For some reason, the issue arises when both are in the basket.

London to Sheffield Any Permitted returns

I’m inclined to agree. I can’t see any basis on which using Avanti on an Any Permitted ticket to Sheffield would be permitted (nor can I see any chance of getting past the dragons at the Euston gateline)

London to Sheffield Any Permitted returns

Ah - there is however a set of LNR & XC only walkups which allow travel via Nuneaton.

London to Sheffield Any Permitted returns

I don’t believe London to Sheffield via Birmingham is a permitted route? Via Tamworth / Nuneaton is, though.

Excessing a super off peak single

Provided this is done before departure time and you are happy to pay a £10 fee, yes. For airport arrivals you would be well advised to use flexible tickets for your onward train journey, or leave a decent margin to allow for delay if using Advance fares.

Train driver and guard attacked at Moss Side station near Lytham

Nice to see scum like this getting put where they belong. Far too many slaps on the wrist nowadays.

Clapham Junction - Is getting from platform 1 to platform 9 in six minutes at 11pm on a Tuesday doable?

Is it worth the stress? It’s been a minute late arriving CLJ Tue & Weds this week. Coupled with (potentially) more passengers than usual due to your gig, and the fact you’re going all the way to Bournemouth, I personally wouldn’t risk it. If you do plan on taking the 2258 though, I’d book the...

LNER London - Leeds £220 single on Social Media/Yorkshire Evening Post

Thing is, the train isn’t full, because you can stand, or sit in an unreserved seat (Coach C).

Ticket from Liverpool Lime Street to Clacton-On-Sea

You could use your paper ticket to enter at Euston and exit at eg Angel, or enter at Euston Square and exit at eg Barbican, but your ticket wouldn’t let you re-enter the Underground network.

Ticket from Liverpool Lime Street to Clacton-On-Sea

Worth remembering then that you can still use your paper ticket to enter the Underground network and leave it en route, but not re-enter again. :)

Ticket from Liverpool Lime Street to Clacton-On-Sea

The Underground transfer is included in a through ticket via London so there is no point in using contactless. Surely it isn’t that much hassle to put a ticket into the barrier? You’ll still be taking something out of your wallet and placing it into or against the barrier. And yes, you’ll have...

Avanti West Coast Withdraws Shrewsbury Service From June 2024

Would anyone in Shrewsbury actually notice? It’s not like Avanti turn up anyway.
