Theres a range of different uniform available with the typical items , Trousers , Polo's , T Shirts , Fleeces , Jumpers . Ive not known anyone order the trousers . Some people wear Polos/T Shirts or Jumpers and fleeces. But also a lot of own clothes . The wearing of uniform is not enforced .

To be fair that would also be a problem with traincrew , the TOC i used to work at would honour the swap even when someone was off sick or leave , either way you have a turn to cover . I think officially swaps were meant to be terminated if someone went onto long term sick and was off for more...

When your base salary is adjusted for pension contributions youll be somewhere around £59.4k gross ive not added in any night premiums or the extra pay...

Well best of luck with it , the only thing worth mentioning regarding training venue is you do not get given a preference they just book you on a course wherever is available . As I said though , you get put up the whole way through school . I guess it can be a pain if you have family and are...

XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

Even when I worked in retail which is renowned for not treating employees well . Once the roster was posted the week before it couldn't be changed without asking people , we had managers suggest and even try and change it but nobody was ever disciplined for not coming in for a shift that the...

With regards training , there are training centres at Carlisle , Preston , Manchester . And I believe one is in the process of being opened in Chester as well . But they can and do send people wherever there is a place nationally . You will be accomodated, provided train tickets and if needed...

XC strike Sat 13th April OFF

Why would that be agreed to during a dispute by the grade/s in dispute ? Taking away arguments about undermining another unions dispute . Why should other grades experience such flexibility with their rostering agreements for a dispute they aren't involved in ? So basically Driver , because...

The only thing worth bearing in mind with 4 weekly pay is the payday gets earlier in the month as the year goes on so its not a set day/date every month . So next year for example the second Janurary payday is the 31st , and by December you get paid on the 5th .

Whilst relief signallers dont have sundays built into the roster , they do get first refusal on residents unwanted/unavailable sundays so still work sundays that come up . And being competent in more than one location obviously increases the potential for overtime being offered so most relief...

    Roster Clerk

Completely agreed , I think its often not appreciated that one of the key skills for a Roster Clerk are people skills/ communication skills .

    A career as a signaller

I would definitely reccomend it even if you are close , bonding with the rest of the group to help each other out with revision and preparation for observations is in my experience will help a great deal . I would second this , if you are unclear on a concept , particularly early on make sure...

Well done , definitely not a course to be taken lightly . Good luck next week as well . That was one of the hardest things I found was having to revise for exams whilst still getting sim practice in as well especially for the final observation .

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

A TOC did try to use them , was met with an escalation of industrial action and did the sensible thing and climbed back down from their proposal to use them . Of course as with everything the devil is in the detail , and whilst there are some EU countries that have MSL laws their laws have some...

    Two trains on single track

I think it is more that it alludes to two trains in a single section , which outside of occassions permitted in the rulebook is an operating irregularity that is taken quite seriously .

    Railway pension

As others have said there is a percentage based reduction for every year you take the pension early set out in your scheme rules . Worth knowing and planning for if you are young enough to think about these things , even considering paying into brass if you know you want to go early .

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

It doesn't always accomplish the job tbf , I know at least 1 toc that does not have spare coverage for its sundays . The only booked sundays are actual driving turns and as far as I remember ferry turns . So you still end up with uncovered turns because drivers with booked sundays are off...

    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

I can think of many TOC's where for many years the percentage rise has been the same for drivers as it has been for all other non management grades . Bar those on lower pay actually who usually get an uplift of a set value often called an underpin . Indeed at some TOC's non management grade pay...

    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

Some at the higher end of the grading structure in operations at network rail have fairly generous OT enhancements . Of course the RMT doesn't sanction RDW at any employers AFAIK in the same way ASLEF does so their ability to negotiate RDW agreements is somewhat different . But the post of...

    Avanti West Coast Cancellations

*Tongue in cheek * Theyll probably get the franchise stripped on the 28th , government say we can't get out of any expensive deals struck(with our say so ) but we will take all the credit for increased perforamnce 1711322555 You clearly haven't been keeping in tune with what has been happening...

    ASLEF strikes 5th-8th April weekend

This ridiculous proposition that this is the final deal so put it to the members was put to the RMT at both NWR and the TOC's . Yet with further industrial action , and the humiliation over ticket office closures new deals were made without anything having been put to members . Precisely this ...
