    Kite goes Exploring, Trip Reports

13th April – Harbourmaster Tour to Milford Haven My first tour with UK Railtours of the year heading towards Milford Haven via the Robeston oil termina freight line. Appealed to me due to wanting to head back out to West Wales and that it could be done without the expense of accommodation. I...

    Special Offers Discussion

Interesting that the tokens are appearing in national 'newspapers' (Mirror) rather than local titles.

it’s a fairly safe bet that standard class passengers and taxpayers will indeed be paying for 1st class refreshments.

Personally I would ditch the complimentary alcohol. Keep soft drinks & hot drinks as freebies but if someone wishes to drink alcohol they either have to bring it on board or buy on board. Saves taxpayer money being used to fund drunks.

    Kite goes Exploring, Trip Reports

Easter Holiday Trips, 3rd April – 7th April With part of the week off work with my first railtour of the year on the Thursday, it was time to do some exploring. 3rd April – Exploring the North Dorset Trailway The North Dorset Trailway is the name given to a mixed used path which makes use of...

Riding a TfW Mk 4 Set

How about a Cheshire day ranger and a day return from Whitchurch to Shrewsbury (which will be valid on a nonstop train)? Although will mean you will have to come back from Shrewsbury towards Crewe then towards Chester but gives you a bit more flexibility.

16 day line closure at Hackney Downs - London Overground suspension and WAML diversions, 20th Jul - 4th Aug

I guess there are no paths available to send the Stansted Connect services nonstop Liverpool Street - Tottenham Hale via Stratford to avoid the overcrowding concerns at Seven Sisters? In my experience those trains normally empty out southbound and fill up northbound at Tottenham Hale due to the...

. Including PRIV discounts for those staff entitled to 75% off 1st class fares? Afterall can't have one rule for staff and one rule for the general public.

LNER ASLEF strike on 20th April

And also a Northern driver saying he abused a LNER manager at Edinburgh by shouting Scab the last round of strikes (start of April). Sadly such people still live in the 1970s with attitudes like that.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I noticed last Friday night's Highlander to Inverness benefitted from Cally Sleeper's extra ten minutes padding between the public timetable & working timetable at Inverness [Working timetable arrival is 08:35, public timetable is padded to 08:45] as it arrived 39 minutes late to the working...

    Glasgow Subway new stock

I was on the system around 1pm and only 302 was out on the inner, the other 7 services were all G2 sets. Guess it's just the luck of the draw at what is out on a given time. I did have a little farewell spin on a G2 set just in case by June there are rarer.

Clearing the Air - RDG Report

The rail industry misses the income from those business travellers who will think nothing about paying for a full fat anytime return as they charge it as expenses.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

I guess for certain stations the stopping point is slightly further back on a 730 compared with a 323 due to signal sighting being affected with the gangway?

    2024 New Haulages

21st April Glasgow Subway 302, 306, 307 Wet weather meant my planned walk got cancelled and I ended up wasting some time on the subway.

Clearing the Air - RDG Report

Not when the prices are capped by flexible rate fares, all that happens is the cheaper advance tickets disappear or are priced so you save as little as 50p over the off-peak fare cap. Just look at LNER, do away with the fare cap of the super off-peak single and fares have jumped, especially at...

    Glasgow Subway new stock

. 302 (Inn) & 304 (Out) were also out this morning (11am time). I wonder if they will ever fit auto announcements to help those not used to the system.

How difficult is it to arrive or leave at all timetabled platforms. 5 year project to achieve this.

A productive trip to Kent, even with the expensive car parks and issues getting home on the Friday

Separate delay repay account required by Northern Rail. Blocking Tactic ?

The time it takes to set up an account will be minimal compared to the time it takes to print off the form to submit a claim via the post. You can even set it up with the same username & password to make things easier

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

I've noticed it as well on the Crewe - Manchester flow. Previously you could get tickets for £4-£5 each way. But looking at the first Sunday in June where tickets have been released and it's £10 each way* (so for anybody making a return they will be better off buying an off-peak day return so...

    2024 New Haulages

20/4: 66304 (Edinburgh to Dalmuir) Glasgow Subway set 304 My gamble to book the Highland sleeper to Dalmuir paid off* with a winning shed although I would have rather had the 73 on the Inverness portion as it was my last one of the sleeper ones. (*Helped by being 70odd minutes late)
