    Avanti last train cancelled tomorrow

Avanti have cancelled the last Euston to Liverpool tomorrow. A friend wants to use this service to get back to Liverpool and onto Crosby on a Merseyrail service. Will Avanti convey him by alternative means as he cannot get an earlier service?

First class upgrade on TfW loco hauled services.

What is the likely charge for a 1st Class upgrade from Cardiff to Chester whilst using a Freedom of Wales Rover? There used to be a fixed fare which used to include the meal but I know that you now have to upgrade and then pay extra for the meal.

West Mids Day Ranger and Rule 14.1

Am I right in saying I can combine a West Mids Day Ranger with a Euston to Rugby ticket with the train not calling at Rugby? Journey would be Euston to Crewe. May need to do this in a couple of weeks and it seems a decent way of saving money.

Merseyrail customer issued £20 Penalty Fare due to there being no facility to print the ticket

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/man-hit-merseyrail-fine-despite-22122461?fbclid=IwAR0DEeNJAzayzd4Kb_KsPoEDCbGBOnYj8XMmVANgqX4ovPIB0n300cl3Abg Whilst the receipt is technically not valid, it is pathetic that he was fined £20. Most young people like to buy tickets on their...

Why can't ALL tickets be mobile and/or Print at Home?

Following a debate on social media about Merseyrail not accepting mobile tickets (a gripe of mine in itself) I was wondering why ALL tickets can't be offered in terms of print at home or mobile tickets as an option to the normal card tickets. I that I mean everything, including season tickets...

LNER compulsory reservations - what happens if you don’t have one?

Sorry if this has been asked before. Imagine you have a flexible ticket (Anytime, Off-Peak, Rover) and you board an LNER service without a reservation. What exactly can the TM do? You have a valid ticket for the journey, you might even have a seat so the reality is that you are not “without a...

Son turning 19 during duration of season ticket

My son uses a Merseyrail Railoass to go to work. At the moment Merseyrail offer 16-18 years season tickets at child prices i.e. 50% off. He's 19 next month so will no longer be eligible for the reduction. However, if he buys his monthly season ticket before his 19th birthday (at 50% off) then...

    Cruise ships and vaccination requirements

https://www.ft.com/content/c0fcd968-e4e0-42f4-b3de-44eae600223f I could see this coming a mile off and expect that insurers will also not be offering cover if you've not been vaccinated. Not sure how this works for holiday companies who offer holidays for younger people who haven't been...

    Merseyrail Flexi Ticket (no savings!)

Inspired market from Merseyrail. Buy three tickets for the price of...….three tickets! If Merseyrail were that bothered about queuing they'd offer mobile tickets and/or online top ups for their Walrus card. https://www.merseyrail.org/seasonal/flexi-ticket.aspx

Buying Anytime ticket for 8th Jan

I am travelling from Bristol to Capenhurst on 8th January and need to be flexible so need to have an off-peak/anytime ticket. Currently the cheapest flexible ticket is the Anytime Single at £41.70. Obviously, I could wait until the day but the fares are due to rise in the New Year. Therefore...

    Using e-tickets and Merseyrail

My son is travelling from Lockerbie to Liverpool tomorrow on the 05:50 departure. He’s bought an off peak return e-ticket on his phone from Lockerbie to Liverpool (Any). As he want to get to Moorfields he has decided to change at Wigan North Western then walk to Wallgate and go in via Kirkby...

TfW multiflex tickets - Any operator?

I notice that TfW have a multiflex ticket between various locations and note the one between Chester and Manchester. You buy through your phone 12 singles at a reduced price when compared to 6 Anytime returns. It does say valid by any operator but suspect that Virgin and/or Northern could get...

Milton Keynes to Flint off-peak return

If I buy a Milton Keynes to Flint off-peak return am I right in saying that I am valid on the RETURN half boarding at Chester on the 08:35 back to Milton Keynes? I know that Break of Journey is not allowed on the outward and also wouldn’t be allowed on a Flint to Milton Keynes return from...

Virgin train announcment regarding validity of tickets

On the 08:35 Chester to London(travelling as far as Crewe in my case) this morning and the train manager goes through all the usual blurb about tickets and then announces that "Off-peak tickets from Flint to London are not valid if you broke your journey at Chester and boarded there" I took to...

Obligation of Merseyrail to get passengers to 'closed' stations during 'Giants' festival

I have a return half of a Capenhurst to Milton Keynes off-peak return and intend to use the ticket get to Capenhurst on Saturday 6/10/18. However, Merseyrail have taken it upon themselves (with two weeks notice) to close 30 stations including Capenhurst during the 'Giants' festival. They have...
