Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

That might explain the brief power outage. With the airport being a possible destination, I wonder if they weren't from the UK? I can imagine that that would have been considered helpful in some Eastern European and Asian countries (and they don't have third rail in the same way).

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

I was on the 1205 off Waterloo which terminated at Woking well over three hours late. Having seen the pictures of the twig above, I'm quite flummoxed as to why it took so long to get things sorted. Was serious damage caused to the power supply? (We did have power for almost all of those three...

    Penalty fare disability. OCD

I would recommend that you consider getting a smartphone and buying e-tickets in future. That way you have complete control over the cleanliness of the device used to purchase your tickets.

    Labour's Plan for buses

It's a subsidy for bus travel. It's just structured based on discounting the fare per passenger rather on funding the service itself. It's similar in concept to state-funded concessionary fares.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

Other than on the M40 or M6 Toll (due to lack of enforcement) your alleged 119mph is really quite unknown these days. In my experience I'm quite likely to be in Lane 3 at an indicated 73 (actual 70) and be the fastest car, certainly in my extensive experience of the M1 and M6. Yes, there's a...

    Labour's Plan for buses

Indeed. While the £2 is likely in due course to increase with inflation or a bit above it, and some long distance routes might come out, it's now been established, and because removing it will hit the poorest hardest it's going to be very hard to go back on it completely. Certainly the London...

WMR Seeking Prosecution - 250+ Offences

To the OP, you may prefer to change your username to one that doesn't identify you as TOCs do read here. To do so report your own post, the admins will pick up on it.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

It is not specifically illegal. But, if (if!) a police officer sees it, it could be prosecuted as careless driving, driving without due care and attention or dangerous driving, depending on its exact context or how necessary it was, as can any other non-legislative part of the Highway Code...

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

There are probably lessons from Boeing in there - stick shaker equivalent (seat shaker?), good, unexpected intervention, bad.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

A good plan is to always be "offset" when changing lane, never change lane into another vehicle's blind spot, particularly not a lorry or coach. There is no specific law against "undertaking" so it will depend. If traffic is moving in queues fine. If it's because lane 3 is doing 70mph and...

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

Car speedometers read high (because reading even 1mph low is illegal) so typically they'll appear to be doing 60 or thereabouts when they are actually doing 56 (90km/h).

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

I know what they're doing - the point is that you should pull left unless to do so would cause you to be too close to the vehicle in front to be sensible/safe. Staying out to overtake a run of lorries with only small gaps between them can make sense, but not if there's a considerable distance...

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

A collision followed by a fire in which the coaches are out of alignment. As long as it has that.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Any centreline, or is it just incorrectly programmed not to allow passing a cyclist travelling at below whatever-the-speed-is (10mph I think?) by crossing a solid centreline? If any centreline that's dangerous and should be illegal. It's really an anti-fatigue measure on motorways and duals...

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

They were already going to be used on Birmingham semifasts. I guess a few will be spare!

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

I can see arguments both ways on that - however if it's possible to "undertake" you (i.e. pass on the left) while correctly* leaving stopping distances then you're in the wrong lane. * BMW practice of doing so without leaving appropriate stopping distances does not count.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

I saw an idiot in one of those massive pickups doing 90ish (I guessed, I was doing bang on 70 on the limiter) with a large trailer in lane 4 of the M6 on Sunday...probably enough for a ban there if there were actual police about. Two offences in one there.

    TFW 2024 Timetable consultation.

I wonder if they'll consider filling the gap with bus services if as it seems they intend to re-regulate these? Does the earlier last train in summer mean a connection to Birmingham? The late one previously was I think a standalone with nothing onward from Mach, reducing its utility.

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

I personally find doing 1-3-1 quite enjoyable. Best done in the most perfect way possible with correct spacing and indication to be as smugly sanctimonious as possible. Sometimes even wakes them up! Worth noting though that if traffic is moving in queues staying in lane is the correct approach.
