Designer sought for St Pancras International growth plans

Is there anything on 'SPICE' publicly available?

    Fast Eurostar.

RTT says EST 9114 left STP at 0824 this morning and Eurostar's app said it arrived at Brussels at 1121 which is 1h57.

    German Rail in decline ?

Fair point although it seemed to be a 1648 (not a 648) which is perhaps some sort of improved version? It had a small but comfortable First section with leather/ish seats, 2-1 seating and wooden tables. Certainly no less comfortable than a Voyager, or a 180.

    German Rail in decline ?

I did Wernigerode - Halle - Berlin last week, ticket booked three weeks in advance was €64 for First Class including 2 seat reservations on the ICE, and my daughter travelled for free. I thought less than £55 was very reasonable for 2h45 on trains compared to say the price for two of us to go...

In my experience the AP and IC will keep running!

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

Eurostar have decided - and they are correct - that there is far more money to be made from selling seats at last minute for sky high prices, because the vast majority of passengers buying those tickets at such short notice will essentially be travelling for emergencies (business or personal)...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

Just to be clear - I am no stranger to day trips - as an adult I can recall multiple ones to Paris (by train), Frankfurt (by air), Geneva (by air), Turin (by air), Barcelona (by air) and even New York (strictly speaking less than 24 hours but I did fly Concorde so I thought I'd mention it ;) )...

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

Eh? There is a large market for people who take a day trip to a city involving over 6 hours of travel, on a whim?

    Eurostar collecting Advance Passenger Information

Presumably this will put an end to the (relatively common I believe) practice where passengers travel on tickets not in their name.

No Eurostar to Amsterdam for almost a year

Yes that’s what I mean…hurrying people through security (perhaps with a dedicated lane), holding the London departure etc. rather than making people wait for the next train (which could after all be the following day.) If you were being smart about it you’d allocate all Amsterdam - London...

No Eurostar to Amsterdam for almost a year

Interesting. Are they going to facilitate that 45 minute connection and/or guarantee it in some way? It could be quite an interesting model for future inbound to the UK services if they can come up with something robust.

    New DB website

In all fairness however the new app is EXCELLENT.

DB considers London service once again

Do you mean the clock on the upper level? I can't see that happening. What would be better would be to turn the area underneath the departure boards opposite the National Rail ticket office into a second entrance into the departure lounge (this area after all backs onto it). Get rid of the...

    New EMUs for CP Portugal

How funny. I was at St Julians too from 1986 - 1989 (in the Junior School, I was born in 1982), perhaps our paths crossed. We lived in Birre, just behind Cascais, and so my Mum drove us along the Marginal (no A5 in those days of course). I remember having to drive across the level crossing at...

    Eurostar to Cologne

Hopefully they will offer a through fare, rather than just the two separate fares added together (which normally makes it outrageously expensive).

ECML blocked at St. Neots? (19/10)

Well our 1748 up to Doncaster was cancelled along with everything else so we are heading back home and will try tomorrow. Somewhat staggering to think that a signal failure can completely **** the entire line for hours on end but that’s Britain 2023 for you I guess.

ECML blocked at St. Neots? (19/10)

I am at King’s Cross and everything is cancelled. Major signal failure at St Neots. No backup working.

Evolyn to investigate cross-Channel rail services (clarified to not include Mobico)

HOTNAT is a good first step but it still puts the burden on the passenger to go and find someone to affix the 'stamp' etc. as I understand. I'm not sure if it covers hotel accommodation if the missed connection forces an overnight stop? Incidentally, the airlines didn't need to form alliances...

Evolyn to investigate cross-Channel rail services (clarified to not include Mobico)

That is the theory, and in fact what the merger promised when it was announced. However there has yet to be any development around through ticketing with associated pricing, either for cash or points. Not to mention connection protection (i.e. Eurostar would guarantee to look after you if you...

    Booking Private Nightjet compartment

I thought the way the sleeping car was laid out, an en-suite connected to a non-en-suite? So if you got two compartments with a connecting door then in theory you could share the facilities. I don’t however see any way to book this online, so do you have to call?
