    Caledonian Sleeper

Geoff Marshall posted a good video about servicing the sleeper coaches at Polmadie Depot which may be of interest to some.

    Glasgow Subway new stock

Geoff Marshall has done a good video

    Glasgow Subway new stock

Saw at least two of the new sets out today - one on both circles.

How common are dividing trains in the UK?

I don't think it happens at the minute but some ScotRail WHL services split sort of three ways - presumably in the summer months when the demand is there. 6 coaches leave Glasgow with a split at Crianlarich (2 to Oban, 4 to Fort William.) Then at Fort William, 2 more coaches drop off leaving...

    Flights you have been on

My return from New York was the other day and got to tick off my first trip on a 747-8 (and second in the upper deck). On landing in Frankfurt, we were given a remote stand which was a real treat!

25 years of the railways in Scotland since the Scottish Parliament reopening

Electrification of the line to Barrhead can also be included in your list!

    Flights you have been on

I was supposed to fly to JFK with Lufthansa yesterday. Had been looking forward to it for months since it was my first (and likely only) trip in the nose cone (seat 1A) of the 747. Unfortunately my first flight from Glasgow left nearly 3 hours late due to a crack discovered in the windscreen...

Most exotic licence plate personally spotted on UK road

I've seen at least two cars in Europe on US plates - one on a fairly newish Dodge RAM in Newcastle I think, and another on Connecticut plates somewhere in France about 15 years ago. Other exotic ones in recent years have been Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Serbia and Ukraine. I've seen at least one...

    Glasgow Subway new stock

Any of the new stock out today? I was planning on heading out around 5pm for a first visit

What percent of services are being operated compared to pre-Covid?

ScotRail was my first thought too - reduced E-G service was an obvious one but a few others - Cathcart Circle (which will finally be reinstated next month!) has been missing along with some semi fast Ayr services IIRC. I'm sure there's several other lines still below pre-covid frequency.

RMT urges the Scottish Government to award Hebrides ferry contract to state owned CALMAC.

That's odd - I've been over to Rothesay twice since then and had no issues getting a through ticket. Once through the app which I picked up from the desk and another straight from the desk.

RMT urges the Scottish Government to award Hebrides ferry contract to state owned CALMAC.

Unless I'm missing something, I'm fairly sure you can still get ferry & rail through tickets. I did it very recently from Central to Rothesay and it's still available on the app (although this just gives you a code to pick up a through ticketvat a TVM)

Airlines with multiple departures from one airport to another in a matter of hours

I thought BA just have 2 flights per day to Joburg? BA also have two similarly timed flights from Hong Kong - 2300 and 2340. Goes without saying that they have a great frequency in the evenings from JFK - near enough one every 30/40 mins in the evening.

Avanti West Coast to cut number of services in December

How does that square with the message that we need to take the train to reduce emissions?

Storm Babet disruption - Saturday 21/10

Without wanting to complain much given the circumstances, it seems (on the face of it) a bit OTT that ScotRail cancelled services up to Dundee. There was hardly any rain in the area and I'm fairly sure Network Rail announced last night on X/Twitter that the line was open. I arrived at 2 and the...

    Ember: Electric coach service

Both my trips were just over half full which was surprising given there was no rail service north of Perth. There was plenty of space throughout the day and I was freely ably to switch services in the evening. Just under £19 return which I thought was decent. Can't really complain about the...

    Ember: Electric coach service

I took my first Ember tonight between Glasgow and Dundee since the trains between Perth and Dundee were off today.) Seemingly unnecessarily I might add, since there was hardly any rain in Dundee and Broughty Ferry...!) I must say I was quite impressed with the whole service. I changed to a...

Scotrail to remove Peak Fares - six month pilot

I think it's great news and hope it's successful. It's a shame about the removal of super off peak tickets but I'm not sure how widely used they are - I'm fairly sure they were only available on the smartcard or via the app? It's just a shame this happens as I'm moving to a new role at work...
