If they ran at 25mph under their own power the traction motor would overheat due to insufficient cooling.
09 had revised cooling fan system which let them run at 25 under their own power
So we have these two derailed units "wrong side" of the hole, but how many more are trapped? Will they need trucking out as well? I guess it depends on how long the track will take to be fixed
The one I'd like to see changed is the Lakes Day Ranger (which has Lancaster/Morecambe as it's southern boundary)

Besides train services, it also allows travel on all Stagecoach buses within Cumbria and the 555...
The visually impaired shouldn't be driving............
Going in a slightly different direction, does anything now use the guided bus lanes in Leeds? It's been a few years since I was there, but on the occasions when I was I never saw them in use.
Carnforth is on the wrong side of the hole
And actually it's not that easy to get stuff out through the town - when Dr Beet's German and French locos were taken out 30-odd years ago they had to do it by running the wrong way up (one way street) Haws Hill, then down the A6 into Lancaster. And...
The guided walks across the bay to Grange from Arnside will be starting soon.

If you watch that security cam video of the derailment, as...
Because often the line speed is the limiting factor. Good example is 158s on Morecambe-Leeds. They'll never hit maximum speed there, so coupling to a slower unit like a 156 would be irrelevant.
Joking aside now - if the route Preston-Settle-Carlisle were to be electrified / resignalled (and presumably track much upgraded in the process) how much of that two hours would disappear? Settle-Carlisle was originally built as an express route, so presumably with electric power on good track...
Turn off before Preston then run through Blackburn
The point according to others upthread is to bypass Lancaster, which is what this does, using existing track (with the bonus of giving Blackburn a London service)
there's a lot of metal in that bridge, it's going to have to be cut and lifted off that ship to make sure it doesn't sink. That means getting several very big cranes and barges on site. Then you have to cut and lift the rest........you're looking at months or longer.
On top of which the loss of...
