    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

I see your point about connection between the branches, as if you did stopper to stopper in the current timetable you are talking a 32 minute connection (as only the slickest people could do it in 2 minutes the current timetable offers - off peak). It is a pity that the overtaking isn’t used...

Surely they will be asked to pay for such upgrades as well, in the same way that developers of housing estates are asked to contribute to infrastructure improvements. If they are paying I doubt we will see push back on the infrastructure projects.

But when you look at the rail traffic flows, going South, Even in the peak the 12 car trains from Bedford have should be fine as they fill up as they get closer to London. So passengers leaving at Wixams will be replaced by passengers joining further South to get into London. I have used...

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

Looks like most if it goes via the loop during the day, and doesn’t seem to make much difference in journey time compared to goig via Digswell. I do recall that one of the reasons that the peak services from Welwyn North ran Non-Stop into London was because it cleared the 2 track section...

Hertford North -Should the frequency increase, with a return of the Semi-Fasts?

Looking at my observations of the services, to me it looks like it this route should really return to 8tph. Some of them are fairly cosy now. But not sure if Great Northern have enough drivers to increase the frequency. I don’t think all the Gordon Hill slow trains are back in the timetable yet...

Why did Parcels Multiple Units fall out of favour?

The only time I saw it in use was in Scotland on a Inverness to the far north. It was a 156 and stil BR in the 1990s. The post vans met the train a various stations. The post vans I think were actually minibuses and took passengers as well. Not sure when that ended. I have feeling it never...

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

Most hours you have 4x Thameslink 4x Great Northern 5x LNER 1x Open access (Sometimes 2) 14 services. Pre Covid this then became 4x Thameslink 8x Great Northern 6x LNER 18 Trains At the moment the Great Nothern Peak offering is normally 5, so maximum 15.

Regulation and a plan b. They may need to hold late running trains making them even later to keep others on time. ie why let a train out of York that stops at Darlington, Durham, Newcastle, Morpeth and Alnmouth ahead of one that stops at Darlington, Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed. Don’t...

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

Not sure if this is going off topic, but I do see this everyday. Slight delay and it is behind the Moorgate. Had they held the Moorgate would have caused more chaos as it only has an 8 minute turnaround at Moorgate? Whatever they do with the ECML timetable it needs to be resilient. The digswell...

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

I hope they review this and remove the stop, hopefully they can see it is killing their performance. Holding the Moorgate doesn’t really help as it soon cascades delays. They did as you say normally manage to get the train on the fast lines before the Alexandra Palace stop was added to keep both...

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

I guess with the timescales we are talking about before this all kicks off we could have a recast MML timetable anyway. The 810s will be fully introduced by then, traffic flows change. Another round of speculation of a London - Leicester all stops service etc.

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

When you look at the proposed ECML re-cast and how difficult it going to make some “local” journeys as a result I don’t think dft will care. Unless there is a large demand travelling between Leicester (and further north) and Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby and Bedford. Unless these flows are...

Is the Heathrow Express a viable, worthwhile service?

The airlines do have surges of passengers arriving departing to certain destinations. Early afternoon seems to have lots of people from the West Coast of the USA for example, I notice a lot of East Asia flights are fairly early in the morning. Both outside traditional railway peaks. To me it is...

Euston overcrowding at TfL/LU entrance caused by new Network Rail departure boards

How long ahead of departure do they typically put trains platforms up? I just looked now on my mobile phone and the 12:33 Manchester via Wilmslow still hadn’t got a platform, but neither had anything else including the London Overground.

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

It Is amazing the disruption that the late running at Welwyn North does cause, in the peak you often see the “2Cxx” held to let faster trains go. Then at Welwyn Garden City the Moorgate gets let out ahead of it. When you couple this we the strange logic of stopping the “2Cxx” at Alexandra...

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

I am not going to dispute that, but if there is more demand for Wixams then the interchange between the Nottingham and Corby services they will move the stop.As you know the railway isn’t ran for the convenience of passengers it is ran to make the most money for the stakeholders.

Is the Heathrow Express a viable, worthwhile service?

I have say with a number of people that were heading to Stratford on the Elizabeth line to change to other services there. I definitely thing that 4tph could be justified between Stratford and Heathrow T5.(extending an existing service from Paddington of course) - Although I understand this...

    Pacers on Long Distance Routes

I bet it isn’t much better now on a 150. As someone said upthread there used to be a Leeds.- Huddersfield- Sheffield - Lincoln service, suspect something only done by a track basher. But from memory most of the long distance pacer journeys themselves were routes where you are unlikely to go from...

Is the Heathrow Express a viable, worthwhile service?

Absolutely, I always ask the people at the local office recommendations about transport / hotels before I book the trip. People often forget about the tube to get from Heathow, but certain destinations in West London it will beat the HeX and Elizabeth line. (or be close enough that the premium...

    EWR, Universal and Wixams

I am sure EMR will adjust the service patterns according if they feel that they will get business out of it. Which could of course be at the expense of other stations on the route. I suspect if the demand exists the Corby services will certainly stop there. But if it makes more commercial...
