    We always go for seat 11B and 11C in the seating coach. Row 11 seats have fixed tables which as you say means there is a little more room. Also you are furthest away from the WC with it's constant 'toilet door is opening' , 'toilet door is closing', 'toilet door is locked' announcements routine.

    For me it was Class 45/1's with air-conditioned Mark 2 stock and a Mark 1 buffet car on the Sheffield - St Pancras via Nottingham services. Occasional Class 47/4 substitute.

    The Erewash Valley is my favourite line having grown up in Ilkeston. Fond memories of the down Master Cutler with a class 45/1 and the power handle wide open heading North in the evening.

    Trying to replace Hymeks with 31's was very optimistic. I think there was little other choice as there were no spare Type 3's available. 31's also replaced Class 22's on the WR which they easily outperformed.

    The entry in Wikipedia is rubbish. A 31/4 produces the same output as a 31/1 when the ETH is switched off. The only difference between the two is a 31/4 has a modifed Woodward governor and idles at higher rpm. I suspect that is where the nonsense comment on Wikipedia originated from.
