Leverburgh to Berneray as mentioned above, and Hurtigruten from Bergen to Kirkenes.

Royal Blue Coaches in the 1960s

I had overlooked the now closed Town Station. Many thanks for the correction.

Royal Blue Coaches in the 1960s

Should anyone be interested, I've now found the timetable on Timetable World in the form of the ABC Coach & Bus Guide for Summer 1961.

Royal Blue Coaches in the 1960s

Firstly, many thanks for both replies. I had looked on Timetable World, but under Royal Blue rather than W&D. The 10:50 departure must have been the one I remembered. Having said that, with numerous duplicates as well as Saturday summer congestion on the A30 and A303, the timetable tended to...

Royal Blue Coaches in the 1960s

As a child I had several holdiays with my parents which involved a journey to Stoke Fleming, near Darmouth in Devon, by coach. As I recall, we boarded in Basingstoke, and changed coaches in Exeter. In those pre-motorway days it was a bit of an all day jaunt, leaving Basingstoke at 10:30 or so...

When was the Farnborough island platform removed?

It was certainly a grass bank back in the mid 60s when I travelled to school in Farnborough from Fleet. The regular engine in the morning was Winston Churchill.

TRIVIA: Services worked by a mixture of bus and coach type vehicles

Stagecoach 81 Bedford to Luton is frequently operated by coaches. In the main this is, I think, as a result of positioning moves for vehicles used on the Luton Airport to Milton Keynes service. There is also a good mix of single and double deck buses on the 81 route.

1963 Southampton to Wembley Part 2

"He drove the Wadebridge into Waterloo Station at 3:45AM. The station, although the largest and busiest in England came about by the strange extension of the Nine Elms terminal of the London and Southwest Railway..." I can't see that anyone has commented that it should be 'the London and South...

Suggestions for where new flyovers/diveunders should be built to replace 'flat' junctions

Ah, the reinstatement of Sturt Lane Junction! A quick look at Google Earth suggests the land required to achieve this has not been built upon, but sadly I suspect it will never happen.

Three-Letter CRS Station Codes: When were they defined?

Luton Airport (Bus) is LUA. It seems surprising that the opportunity wasn't taken to make this the same as the already existing IATA code for the airport, which is LTN. Instead, this CRS code is given to Luton Airport Parkway.

Blockade to allow Waterloo upgrade to take place, resulting in timetable changes

The Waterloo disruption page of the SWR website reports that:- Services to and from Weymouth via Virginia Water will be substantially reduced. Can someone explain what is meant by this please? Are Weymouth services really being diverted via Virginia Water?

Trains that run through London without changes- any without stopping?

Back in the 70s there was a Summer Saturday service from Poole to Sheffield. I once caught this from Southampton to Basingstoke. After alighting I was surprised to see it heading off towards Waterloo rather than towards Reading as I had expected. When I checked later I discovered that the...

    Modern Railways magazine publish date

The publication date is shown on the magazine's Contents page as the fourth Thursday of the month. As a subscriber who receives his copy by post, I usually receive it the day before. I once queried non-arrival by the Monday following the fourth Thursday. I was told at the telephone that...

    Class 171: Pointless Modification?

Also, back in the 1970s there was a service leaving Waterloo at around 18:00 which comprised a 33 / 4TC / 4 or 8 VEP formation. This split at Basingstoke with the VEP continuing to Southampton while the 33 and TC went forward to Salisbury.

    Railway map

Jowett's Railway Atlas is also a record of all lines ever in place. Again, Abe Books is a good website to find it - I think it's currently out of print.
