This is not correct - You can use an off-peak travelcard any time after 09:30

    2024 Fare Revision

Annex Table A1 in the MD3221 is also incorrect as it shows last year's increases for the TOC fares. For example the Zone 1-4 peak fare is shown as increasing from £4.60 to £4.90, and off peak from £3.40 to £3.60 in March 2024, but the current fares are already £4.90 and £3.60 - so I imagine...

LNER London - Leeds £220 single on Social Media/Yorkshire Evening Post

Is there a way to differentiate between a train that actually has compulsory reservation to one that has the flag but isn't. On old, printed timetables there used to be a symbol for "reservation recommended" which would seem more appropriate for most of the LNER services.

LNER to pilot removal of Off-Peak tickets

I've stayed at a hotel and planned to catch a train home late morning, but on waking to glorious sunshine stayed the whole day and got a train late afternoon instead. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Car drivers aren't expected to book their journey times in advance - we have designed our...

    Transpennine Secret Fare Question

In 2008 there was a great deal of publicity about rail fares being made "Simple". All tickets were to be named "Anytime", "Off-peak" "Super-off-peak" or "Advance". All the various different names for tickets booked in advance were abolished. I'm sure it was also implied that it didn't matter...

    2023 Israel - Hamas war

There could be some sort of power-sharing so that jews are guaranteed places in the parliament, and joint heads of government similar to Northern Ireland. The concept of a Jewish state hasn't been a huge success - is it time to try something different? A secular state with freedom of religion...

£2 Price Cap on fares in England - Now extended beyond October 2023

At the Tory Party Conference, the Prime Minister has just announced that the £2 fare cap will be continuing beyond October 31st.

Tried to use Network Railcard to buy return ticket between Sydenham & Battersea Park

There is a £13 minimum fare on weekdays, so I imagine it wouldn't give a discount on that journey.

According to the timetable at https://irp.cdn-website.com/802f992f/files/uploaded/BMCoasterTimetable.pdf there is no service at 1515 from Hengistbury Head. The next bus after 1445 is 1600. Bustimes.org shows a bus at 1515 though.

    Avanti compulsory reservations?

Perhaps they need to introduce an additional flag so that we have one for "reservations compulsory" and one for "reservations aren't compulsory, but we are pretending that they are" :)

LNER fare rises and single leg pricing on many flows, from 11 June

Single leg pricing is certainly simpler - you pay for each journey made rather than paying for 2 journeys even if you are only going 1 way (with singles priced at nearly the same price as a return). All other countries I have visited price public transport in that way and air fares are as well...

Overcharged on Oyster due to Southeastern Engineering Works

As I understand, you are not due any refund. Ticket acceptance only applies to paper tickets. With Oyster, you always pay the price for the route you take.

TfL single fares and caps changes from March 2023

Looking at the mayoral decision document, National Rail fares seem to generally be increasing more that the TfL fares, For example a peak PAYG fare for Zones 1-4 on TfL goes up from £4.30 to £4.40 whereas on National Rail it increases from £4.60 to £4.90. For Zones 1-6 TfL goes up from £5.50...

Covid restrictions abroad: updates & observations

Currently at Lake Garda on Italy. There is no enforcement of masks on the buses and probably only around 20% wearing them. On the ferries, they insist on masks for boarding (and give you one if you don't have one with you). Everyone immediately takes them off on the open decks and leaves them...
