Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

There were articles mentioning them at the time they were fitted (a number of the locos apparently had them fitted, not just the Chiltern-liveried ones, as a lot of them worked Chiltern services at one time or another), so they did work. When the 68s came along there was mention on one of the...

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Believe it was just the fire system mods to work with the Mk3s, although a non-modified loco could be used with a rider in it. When Chiltern fitted power doors to their mk3 sets the 67s were also fitted with door controls (through the RCH jumpers, possibly?).

And modifications to the locos too - hence the need for a dedicated pool whereas with the ATW Mk3s any 67 which had had the fire system modifications (which was most of them) could be used.

All Northern self-service ticket machines off line 13/7/2021

True, could be done like that - but the drive would need a clean Windows install on it (which could be done off-site), then the deployment should be fairly quick, assuming a reasonable internet connection. I would assume those machines will just have a tight configuration profile, plus minimal...

ScotRail Industrial Relations issues (including conductor strike action)

You'd have thought that a left-wing party like the SNP would be keen on usable public transport. Seemingly not...

    New Northern lines at Keighley

It is strongly implying that anyone passing that line needs a ticket, which is not the case. If it was intended to say 'Ticket required to travel on the trains' it could have said exactly that.

And to people walking onto the station to meet someone off the train / help someone onto the train.

All Northern self-service ticket machines off line 13/7/2021

Yes, I'd have thought that ought to be possible too, assuming the machines all have the same hard drive controller (and I would expect that they are built to a standard design).

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

That's speculation relating to the future (and much of it extremely unlikely). It's obviously going to be more 67s as nothing else suitable will be available in sufficient numbers in the timescale, and there would in any case be no logic in having to train drivers on two small pools of...

All Northern self-service ticket machines off line 13/7/2021

What's it done to the hard drives? (I would assume these are SSDs given that the machines are relatively recent?)

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Could well see some 67s pulled out of store for overhaul / modification soon then! Currently, 10 of them are stored (although of course some of those which are to be modified may already be active)

    RMT Industrial Action - EMR

But two other TOCs are having what are pretty much the same units as Northern, but with gangways. It would not therefore seem likely that this is a significant point of contention. Most of Northern's older DMU fleet also had gangways (Pacers and 150/1s I think being the only exceptions).

    RMT Industrial Action - EMR

Northern ordering 2-car units without gangways (195s) seemed particularly illogical.

York to Blackpool North services question

USB-A is still the most common - the Samsung phones I've been buying for work recently still have USB-A cables and chargers, even though the phone itself is USB-C. It's only the socket face anyway - swapping those over later will be a fairly trivial job; it's installing the wiring looms which...

Historical ideas for XC fleet deployment/renewal in the early 2000s

So were Pacers busy on many routes - that doesn't mean they were popular! It's simply that there are a lot of people who have to travel by train. I've never encountered anyone who would intentionally go for Voyagers when there were better options available. If they did aim for specific trains...

Alstom celebrating 20 years anniversary of Voyager's introduction

And that could well be a chicken and egg situation - XC already has relatively recent trains not due to for replacement, so that could well make it less of a priority for electrification.

Priorities of road users to be changed to place responsibility on those that pose the greatest danger to others.

Indeed. Same issue on some sections of canal towpath too.

York to Blackpool North services question

That's where USB sockets are an advantage - far lower power requirement than a 3-pin. I don't know why no trains seem to have USB sockets in the seatbacks, like a lot of buses do. This seems a far more sensible arrangement as they are then accessible to people in every seat. 3-pin sockets are...

Alstom celebrating 20 years anniversary of Voyager's introduction

Likely to be beyond mid-life, given that they are nearly 20 years old, and there is a push to phase out diesel. Ten years or so more would seem a reasonable assumption.
