    MML Electrification: progress updates

I recall Leicester is being left out for the time being, as a gap, whilst they come up with a solution with the low bridge at the south end of the station. There’s the station buildings and busy main road above and a sewer below, so limited options. The next stages I believe are Leicester...

Constant issues between Paddington and Reading?

What seems like a daily occurrence from as far back as I can remember, there seem to be constant reliability issues between London Paddington and Reading. Whether it be an infrastructure issue or a train fault, this is something which regularly occurs on this section of the GWML. Why is it...

New Mills Central landslip - 6 week closure

I’m hearing reports that the land next to the track has subsided at New Mills Central. This comes after a 5mph emergency speed restriction imposed by Network Rail, which has been in place for a prolonged period of time. It’s been said that the earth besides the track has been moving, although...

WCML blockade - impact on EMR services? (29/03 - 01/04)

I noticed this in the timetable. However, will that mean that most WCML pax will be using the EMR 'Connect' Corby services as opposed to the Intercity services, which go further north?

WCML blockade - impact on EMR services? (29/03 - 01/04)

Afternoon. With the WCML closed for engineering works between Euston and Milton Keynes Central between the 29th of March and the 1st of April, I was wondering how this would affect EMR services to and from St. Pancras in terms of passenger loadings? Last time the ECML was shut from Kings...

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

Once again the 13:46 from Euston to Crewe was announced late, at around 13:38. Not as as bad as past experiences, however. Even RTT ‘knew’ what platform the train was in, several minutes before. It displayed ‘at platform’ at 13:30. So it was just sitting in the platform a good time before it...

Euston station toilets in a disgusting state

This is the general state of the toilets at Euston, which I would consider the ‘better’ options available. Other toilets are either blocked, missing locks on the doors or water surrounding the toilet.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

I believe Greater Anglia now have full control and responsibilities over the CIS and P.A system at Liverpool Street. It’s the only station that they operate which remains with the Wordline system, since all their other stations have switched to the Blackbox text-to-speech system a couple of...

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

I don’t understand why it has taken Greater Anglia so long to sort this out. It’s not like Liverpool Street is a tiny station in the middle of nowhere. I also wondered why they kept tampering with the system, as they kept switching between Amy and Anne every few months.

Euston station toilets in a disgusting state

For as long as I can remember, the toilets at Euston station have been in such poor condition. The cubical walls and doors are full of graffiti, explicit messages and the paint is peeling off. The toilets are often blocked, with there being a pool of water on the floor around it. It doesn’t...

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

Does anyone know when the announcements were last working at London Liverpool Street? If memory serves me right, they’ve been broken for around a year or so now. Initially they would sound, with it cutting out halfway through, however now there are zero announcements sounding.

Horrendous Hull Trains East Coast ride

Pendolino’s are one of the smoothest riding trains in my opinion. Smooth ride, smooth acceleration and braking. A world of difference compared to a Class 80x.

Farewell B.R 'circus horn' and Emma Hignett

I thought Lancaster was pronounced the same everywhere? If not, then the Southerners have been pronouncing it wrong all this time

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

I was under the impression that if a P.A system has been installed, then is HAS to be used, be it manual or automated announcements. Birmingham New Street does neither of these, the train arrives into the platform completely unannounced. Particularly for long distance services, or services which...

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

I had a discussion with the station manager of Birmingham New Street and he said he’d silent all announcements if he could… Definitely something a bit suspect happening here me thinks.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

How on earth have Network Rail got away with not announcing any services as they approach the platforms at Birmingham New Street? They used the excuse of noise pollution to silence the P.A, but surely this breaches accessibility policies? It’s been like this for several years now.

St Pancras safety concerns at top of EMR P1-4 escalator (11/02)
