We’ve discussed this before but there’s always likely to be a technical appeal point - e.g. whether the Penalty Fare posters at the station are compliant with the legislation requirements.
There has been a thread about this previously - but I can’t find it with a few quick searches. Almost as if we talk about tickets and TVMs too much on this forum
It looks like the same model of machine as at some EMR locations. The EMR ones do indeed just print to what looks and feels a white receipt roll (no RSP number).
You may not have the ticket, but do you have a booking confirmation/receipt/etc? It may be worth reaching out to customer services to ask if they’d consider.
I’m not sure on the second question.
You mention two cards. Did the first card have an expiry date? I’m guessing you took it out of your wallet once that expiry date had been and gone.
The photo card clearly says it’s only valid with a railcard bearing the same number.
I’m not sure how you’ve been provided with an invalid card...
It’s worth bearing in mind that the ticket office at Oakham is operated by East Midlands Railway. The OP would be advised to contact their customer services rather than CrossCountry.
We walk the 0.2miles (4mins) to Whitley Bay Metro station.
We board the 07:16 Tyne and Wear Metro service to West Jesmond, arriving there at 07:39 this Wednesday morning.
The more obvious solution is the guard walking through the train which (reportedly) didn’t happen. Though I do feel as if the OP has answered their own question here.
