    ORR Origin-Destination Matrix 2021-22

Edit: I missed that there is a new thread for this: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/orr-origin-destination-matrix-2022-23.263200/ Apologies if I've missed it quoted elsewhere, but the latest guidance from ORR shows they have applied an adjustment for split ticketing to the 2022-23 data and...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

Permitted routes are totally irrelevant to how virtually all journey planners work; the fares and routeing validity are only calculated at a second stage. There will probably be some other explanation for what you've seen, maybe related to how much slower the journey is via Nottingham.

Platform bells to signal trains to passengers

There was a bell on the platform at Worcester Foregate Street last time I was there (a few years) ago. I assumed it was just somehow relaying a bell code from the signal box rather than being specifically intended for passengers, as it did quite a few rings in quick succession. It was definitely...

Difficulty understanding specific permitted route example

My opinion FWIW: the negative easement in the routeing guide (quoted in post 6 above) is not enforceable because the validity from Waterloo to Vauxhall is due to the fact that both stations are in the London Terminals fares group, and fares groups as a concept are totally outside the routeing...

TfW website selling tickets that are not valid?

I would tend to agree - considering it was confirmed that the advance was for the 0730 TfW train: Checking on RealTimeTrains, it departed that day at 0732, and OP says which rather suggests that train travelled on was the 0810 WMR service, hence the problem?

    Railcard and Gold card query

With a Gold Card where the holder is travelling on a route covered by their annual season (and thus they don't need to purchase a separate ticket) then it is acceptable for the companion to have a different ticket. Not sure if that was the question though.

German court takes an interest in journey planner algorithms

Yes, true, I maybe wasn't clear enough that the other types of search were there if you needed them; it's just that "Prefer the fastest journeys" was always there very prominently and indeed selected by default.

German court takes an interest in journey planner algorithms

Link here if you can read German: https://www.hessenschau.de/wirtschaft/oberlandesgericht-stoppt-suchfunktion-in-bahn-app-v3,olg-db-suchfunktion-100.html The gist of it is that a private train operator complained to the regional court in Frankfurt-am-Main about the fact that the journey...

Query about London ticket offered by TrainSplit

It's a fair point; there's no technical reason why the system can't tell you that the ticket splits between National Rail and U-zone validity at Tottenham Hale and that the restriction only applies to the first part of the journey: the journey planner knows this internally because it is...

London to Oxford and back Saturday 30th

A website that clearly shows all trains from a station on a given day is useful for times like this: https://www.brtimes.com/!board?stn=OXF&date=20230930

    BT Copper to Fibre

Oh I agree totally. My Mum had a new fibre line installed and was simply told her old phone extensions would not work any more. I got them working with the help of that video but was quite shocked at the misinformation that is being given out that it's not possible.

    BT Copper to Fibre

You can connect the extension wiring into the VOIP router and then they will work again - this video explains it quite well

    BT Copper to Fibre

I think the key thing is that they will switch off the equipment at the exchange that supports "Plain Old Telephone Service". Unlikely you would see anything around your house.

WMR Termly Student ticket pricing and breaking journey?

I think they might offer manually-calculated short distance point-to-point student seasons based on the SDR fare, where it would be cheaper than a zonal ticket. Still doesn't explain the anomaly though.

Convoluted journey with only one timed train

Ah right, I was mistaken - have corrected my post above. Right, thanks for clarifying; that's what I thought and I was curious as to whether something had changed while I've been (to a certain extent) "away"! I would disagree with this point though. I think if you want to use an itinerary...

    West Yorkshire DaySaver Evening Restrictions

To be precise, the restriction applies on services departing after 16:00 and before 18:30, i.e. 16:01 to 18:29. So you could use a train departing as late as 16:00.

Convoluted journey with only one timed train

I think I may be getting out of date in my knowledge - is this a new restriction? I thought the previous rule was that it was OK to take alternative connecting services if they weren't specified on the ticket (because they weren't reservable). And I assumed the fact that non-reservable services...

Scotrail to remove Peak Fares - six month pilot

This reads as if there's no restriction on systems showing the new fares before 18 September, so I have updated BR Fares to show them already (if you select the appropriate future date option). Incidentally the date of 2 October seems wrong - as far as I can see from checking a few flows, the...

Can't find the button to buy ticket from another station at Stratford International

There are some mock-ups of Scheidt & Bachmann's new journey planner interface in this promo video: (Haven't checked in detail if it covers whether there will still be a quick buy screen)
