Cumbria Coast Electrification Announcement? (Barrow-Carlisle only)

Indeed. When I Google this I discover it was actually "Tories pledge £500m towards reversing Beeching rail cuts". The point being that this Westminster shower (the Britain breakers, I mean) have previous form for making promises and not following through. So, apart from Okehampton and the...

CrossCountry Trains advert banned over ‘insufficient’ free food and drink claims…

And that would be fine if that's what the TOC advertised that it offers but that wasn't the case.

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram pledges to bring "trackless trams" to Liverpool Airport, among other places

Is it true that 777s operate with different rail standards?

CrossCountry Trains advert banned over ‘insufficient’ free food and drink claims…

The key issue is not delivering what is promised and that is not acceptable corporate behaviour. You highlight lots of points which, whilst worthy of discussion elsewhere, are not really relevant.

CrossCountry Trains advert banned over ‘insufficient’ free food and drink claims…

It is also quite dishonest. It is totally unacceptable corporate behaviour.

Combined transport authority in the north

Political boundaries didn't stop the electrification of the Wirral line from Hooton into Cheshire and there is a lot of cooperation between Merseytravel (Liverpool City Region) and the Welsh government. And so boundaries aren't insurmountable. There are basically three societal choices to run...

Combined transport authority in the north

Perhaps look at how local areas run trains in Germany where there is some cross over at the boundary. But I think that our experience of "amorphous mass" (Chester to Chathill) Northern is management from miles away is not the answer. Local services need local management committed to and...

Combined transport authority in the north

You have to have boundaries somewhere and Northern is too big and sprawly.

Combined transport authority in the north

I would rather split Northern into two-west and east of Pennines. Not sure that Liverpool has any closer economic or social links with the likes of Leeds and Sheffield than it has with North Wales.

Cumbria Coast Electrification Announcement? (Barrow-Carlisle only)

Didn't Boris promise to reverse all the Beeching cuts?!

Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

Buy it at Birkenhead Park ticket office perhaps 1712404908 Never much of a queue in my experience 1712405038 The Merseytravel website makes it very clear where Saveaways can be bought, which doesn't include online retailers. I have never found buying one at the ticket office anything other...

Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

There are plenty of people on this forum gunning for Merseyrail at every opportunity. My favourite is that they had the audacity to want to modernise toilet facilities and this would (shock horror) require them to be closed whilst this was happening. Presumably people would prefer them to fall...

How about a new entity called "Northern Trains"?

Things don't neatly fit into hard boundaries but that doesn't mean that it is best to one massive conurbation "the North".

How about a new entity called "Northern Trains"?

The point that I am trying to make is that this is not one conurbation.

How about a new entity called "Northern Trains"?

Most people who live on the Liverpool side want to travel into Liverpool. Most people who live on the Manchester side wanted to travel into Manchester. The number of people who want to travel from, say, Cressington to Mills Hill is minimal. Despite the impression presented on this forum...

Is the current Gatwick Express situation a problem?

It is a symbol of the crazy country that has been created over the past forty years. I don't believe in scamming overseas travellers but if there is a price differential it needs to reflect some added value. And it doesn't. Therefore it is a problem.

How about a new entity called "Northern Trains"?

(Obvious) cultural differences aside, there is a probably optimal size for a conurbation, which may be much smaller than what you are suggesting. PS Don't let Northern anywhere near Merseyrail.

Merseyrail penalty - have cctv proof but appeal is getting rejected

I was there yesterday and there are two signs, one pointing to the lift and the other equally prominent pointing to the low level ticket office. On a separate note, I see that Liverpool Central toilets have reopened and am awaiting the Merseyrail haters finding fault!

Merseyrail penalty - have cctv proof but appeal is getting rejected

I think this is a highly theoretical concern (like most of the discussions about Merseyrail ticketing on this forum). There is nothing stopping such people purchasing required tickets at the high level ticket office or from the myriad machines on the concourse. 1711717512 And of course that...

Merseyrail should be taken off the National Rail system

I mean, fundamentally it's all about an organisation based in a city where the Tories achieved 1.7% of the vote in the last local elections (and no the decimal point is not in the wrong place) and wanting to have absolutely nothing to do with Westminster. The government and its hangers-on are...
