    Signal Boxes on Maps

Lets not forget what the ordnance survey was created for. It was part of the military. I dont think the military would be interested in types of signal or if a box is a signal box or a gate box.

Future of the Settle to Carlisle, Bentham and Ribble Valley lines

Steeton is quite close to Airedale Hospital. But a bit far to walk unless you are fit. Few buses unless you change at Steeton. Pity there isnt a pedestrian way through from the station to the back of the hospital. (Airedale has a catchment that includes Keighley and the Worth Valley, Colne...

What could happen for not giving Revenue Officer my details

You only have to give your address on line to verify the card is yours. The number data in your address is sent to the bank for this reason but there are other methods of verifying cards. So a ticket retailer may not have your address. Why would they want it for something delivered...

    Signal Boxes on Maps

One has to remember that OS staff probably would not know the difference between a signal box, a gate box or a structure containing a shunting or ground frame. So 'SB' would probably be used for all these buildings.

    New Street Platforms

New st is a bit different. Through platforms only have a and b sections. 4c is a bay at the end of 4. I suppose they didnt want to renumber 5 - 12 to 6 -13. And would they want a plat 13? I remember when they renumbered Leeds years ago. The suffixes before the change were E and W for east and...

Why is another platform being built at Bradford Forster Square?

I knew one of the Crossleys in the 70's. He worked in shipley but didnt look like he got his hands dirty. Nice bloke tho.

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

Differences in the adoption of 'bogie' coaches between the UK and USA

Much of the London Underground was built by americans. And the electrification system was US technology. Not sure if European systems has US influence or whether they copied London.

Differences in the adoption of 'bogie' coaches between the UK and USA

Going back to track - which has a bearing on vehicle suspension - didnt UU railroads make track by using a tree trunk cut in half longtudinally and then nailing the flat bottomed rails to that. In the UK we did it differently, often using longditudinal timbers with bracing to maintain gague...

Fallout for rail prosecutions from Post Office scandal

Fallout for rail prosecutions from Post Office scandal

Higher paid workers can organise their affairs to reduce tax liability, or even not undertake an activity at all. Which is why many tax raising measures to 'hit the rich' fail to get much extra funds into the treasury. This affect is known as the Laffer Curve, named for a US economist. When I...

    Rotherham Masborough - FLT?

Rotherham Station was the red square in the middle of the map images. It became Rotherham Masborough when Central opened. It was an important station used by NE-SW trains until it closed in 1987. I assume your FLT train used sidings near that. Masborough is a suburb of Rotherham.

    Pacers on Long Distance Routes

The 144's were a class above the 142's. I used to travel Gigg - Bingley or Gigg -Leeds back then. Seeing a 142 coming made my heart sink, but

What rolling stock would you order from Hitachi / Alstom

Maybe the 22X trains could go abroad. If we can flog HST to Mexico I am sure we can flog these somewhere.

Penalty Fare for being on wrong train by 3 minutes - Leeds to Manchester

The ticket the OP posted an image of doesnt mention Chester. He had a ticket to Manchester. How was he supposed to know he should get a train to a different place. The ticket should say the trains destination so he would know to get a Chester train and get off at Manchester. 1713694062 The...

What rolling stock would you order from Hitachi / Alstom

I would do the same but have a diesel/electric option. There are many routes where there is simply not enough opportunity charging to make BEMU work (Leeds - Carlisle, South Trans Pennine, N Wales for example). Not convinced Leeds-Harrogate-York would work reliably with BEMUs BEMU Battery -...

Is ‘train station’ replacing ‘railway station’ in UK passenger rail terminology?

I rarely use either. I say 'Settle Station', 'Gigg Station', 'Hellifield Station' 'Leeds Station' etc. I usually say which bus station too. Maybe growing up in Leeds with 2 railway stations and 3 city centre bus stations ingrained the habit.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

so your car decelerates a lot and no red light to the rear to tell other road users you are slowing?
