Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

Yes app was quite good with service updates this morning. I also asked them to include cancelled trams at one point and they introduced that a week or two later. :)

Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

This morning it looks like there has been a lot of disruption on the trams in the form ot three sperate incidents. An 'incident' between Old Market Square and David Lane. Additionally, tram failure between Wilford Village/Ruddington Lane and power failure between Toton Lane and Bramcote Lane...

    Norse Atlantic: experiences and opinions?

I'm thinking about going to NYC later this year and Norse didn't look much cheaper than the alternatives? Where you get stung is the luggage, which you of course want when travelling across continents. It seems like once all the taxes/tariffs are added on, plus unavoidable fuel, it inevitably...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Doesn't this give some incentive to Stadler to hurry up with introducing the new fleet, or is most of the dawdling down to Nexus now?

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

I would guess three track would run bi di? Probably not so bad if the track splits before Dore & Totley, rather than having to share a single track through the station too. Did services towards Hope Valley waiting for clearance to pass Dore often block the mainline waiting for the train coming...

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

In terms of OLE around Sheffield, that probably needs to wait until all the track going into and out of Sheffield station is ripped up and replaced, similar to the remodeling in Derby. I would guess the bridge has been constructed to W12 clearances + OLE?

Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

Wouldn't be surprised if people are bussing either, although I suspect the journey time is pretty brutal from Hucknall Vs tram or train. Closer in, the bus becomes much more competitive, especially as they are all NCT! Will be interesting to see how the train ridership is doing. The problem I...

Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

Has anyone noticed a difference in how busy trams are after the recent fare increases? Toton Lane bound look a little less full at David Lane from what I see, but perhaps it's always a bit quieter at this time of year?

Class 810 - The Right Fit For EMR?

Of course, from the funding perspective, this is a common story on UK rail. The 195s for Northern which were overcrowded on day one, the 185s for TPE which had both less carriages and a reduction in fleet size, despite significant growth in ridership on those routes. A big part of the issue I...

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Friendly place in speculative for debates around the merits of the 810s! Ideally we'd like to keep this to just updates and some discussion around bringing the trains into service, rather than about the merits of the trains once they are in service. Hopefully that makes sense...

Class 810 - The Right Fit For EMR?

I've seen a lot of debate in the main Class 810 introduction thread, so creating this as a friendly space for debate around the merits of the 810 including but not limited to... -Seats -Capacity -Possibility of keeping 222 fleet to supplement capacity? Personally, I'd prefer the whole fleet be...

Could EMR use something as a stop gap until the class 810s are introduced?

I've been guilty of this in the past too, but it would be nice if we could keep this closer to discussion around the introduction of the units, rather than whether or not they are a good idea. Is it worth creating a thread titled 'Class 810 Discussion' in Speculative?

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

Possibly to do with unsprung weight? The initial email sounded speculative in nature anyway from what commentors are saying. I certainly wouldn't make any changes until I saw something concrete.

Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

Trams seem to be running okay through the storms of the past few days, although the winds haven't been excessively fast in Nottingham. Hopefully this holds up for the rest of the rainy season!

Nottingham Express Transit - Reliability & Renewals (2023-2024)

I've not gotten off at High School recently, but I'll take a look next time! The solution to tram defrosting is to leave them on overnight with the heaters on a low setting, but one that keeps the tram heated to a temperature where things won't freeze up... I had to walk to work that morning...

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

Whilst I'm unsure about the hope valley stoppers, I'd be surprised if the Manchester - Sheffield section of the express services wasn't breaking even operationally. When you look at the passenger flow maps for Piccadilly Vs Victoria, you can see that Hope Valley carries a similar number of...

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

I think Hope Valley is being designed to handle 3x express and 1x local per hour in each direction. Wether the same can be said of the surrounding infrastructure is a different story, but have to start somewhere I guess? Will probably improve resiliency and to a more limited extent, journey...

Third rail - becoming a better option for electrification?

Discontinuous OLE looks a lot more viable than 3rd rail and is what has been used in Wales. Essentially, there are sections of neutral wire where clearances are too tight to allow for current to flow without risk of arching, with a small battery pack on the train to supply traction/house power...

Third rail - becoming a better option for electrification?

Pretty sure ORR doesn't ban things like short extensions of 3rd rail, rather you wouldn't electrify something like the Chiltern mainline with it. Something like Guildford - Redhill would probably make a lot of sense tho. A lot of wire down incidents are due to legacy designs, such as those...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

If NPR isn't going to happen, then at least TRU needs to be done properly. I find a lot of these reports really heavily focus on journey times, forgetting that they are also going to need to accommodate more passengers if the journey becomes more convenient by rail... Upgrading the existing...
