Just booked my first trip on caledonian sleeper. Fort William to Crewe in a week. Very expensive, but thought why not as a treat. Will be comparing with interest to the VR sleepers I have used extensively in Finland.

Morning and evening services to Birmingham tend to be absolutely full of Avanti office staff in Standard Premium. They get very arsey when you politely ask them to move out the reserved SP seat you’ve paid for! Not a good experience.

I visited Birmingham New Street ticket office and said the Rail Staff Travel website wasn’t working, showed my NR staff travel card and the helpful lady let me buy all the tickets I needed at the PRIV rate. I bought my next 3 journeys over the next few days just in case this issue drags on...
