GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

On any given day when GWR are short of units, are Control really going to cancel other trains to protect the Greenford standby unit or will it be pressed into service elsewhere though?

From the 20th May 2019 there was a service which arrived into Reading around 06:45, starting from Oxford which was previously a 6 car turbo and became a 5 car IET, although was a 9 car did show up on some days. From Dec 2019 the service was curtailed to start at Didcot and became a 12 car 387...

Being accused by Avanti of delay repay fraud

I've recently had several GWR delay repay appear as payments from SWR on my bank statements, so seems First are mixing up between their brands on whatever shared system they are using.

eTickets on Southern - how to use?

Other retailers like LNER and Chiltern Railways allow tickets to be saved to Google Wallet, so it's not a problem with eTickets generally. It's convenience like this which factors into my decision of which ticket retailer to use.

End of the line for return rail tickets

We don't know what those TOCs will do yet, but when single leg pricing for Contactless was introduced between Reading and Paddington, the Peak is priced at half the Anytime Day Return and Off-Peak is half the Off-Peak Day Return. 2 x Off-Peak Contactless is therefore cheaper than the Off-Peak...

End of the line for return rail tickets

It'll depend on how the singles are price, as £15.30 is the Anytime single, so will there be a new Off-Peak single? For example when single leg pricing for Contactless in the Thames Valley was introduced, there are Peak and Off-Peak single fares, so Reading - London has a Peak Contactless at...

Delay Repay for RDG to WDT Annual season ticket

I've used their webform previous, I submitted on Thursday evening, they replied the next day and asked for bank details, with the refund processed the day after. 'Split' Season Tickets

I use two Flexi Seasons on the same Smartcard, no problem loading or activating via the National Rail Smartcard Manager app. On this route, splitting on Anytime return tickets and Flexi Season had a saving, whereas Off-Peak returns and normal seasons didn't. The advantage of the Flexi Season Vs...

    Frustrated with RMT

For leisure I'm sure passengers will return, but for the more profitable business travel the strikes and general railway unreliability at the moment is helping to further ingrain digital / remote ways of working in my experience. In our business, aside from the commute to office, travel to...

    GWR Delay Repay

In my experience the GWR Delay Repay is normally reviewed within a day or two, with the refund via BACS within a couple of days. In fact my last one was submitted at 07:00 and approved by 21:00 the same day, with the payment processed email within an hour and in my bank account within a couple...

    Temporary Timetable 13th Dec - 7th Jan

The GWR website (https://www.gwr.com/strike) had the following earlier this afternoon, but it's been removed since: "Train services could also be disrupted from 18 December 2022 to 2 January 2023 as Network Rail may only be able to provide a reduced window of operation. This means a reduced...

Off Peak ticket not valid on a certain train despite it passing all restrictions

Contactless from Reading to Paddington is charged at off-peak provided the tap in is before 06:30 and is regardless of the exit time. This gives a longer early morning off-peak window than paper tickets.

    GWR reinstating trains tomorrow?

On Real Time Trains some additional services have appeared for tomorrow (Mon 7th), but not on the National Rail app. Is there a way to tell which is right? Are these being reinstated and gradually filtering through the various systems? E.g...

Flexible season ticket / Greater Anglia smartcard

Ok good to know. Purchased from GWR and loaded via the National Rail Smartcard Manager app. The setup works well for my journey, since I only need one smartcard and it's easy for onboard staff to see both ticket seasons.
