    Toilets on Coaches

    Would concur with this. Even on service distance (longer buses, T2 and T3) I have had to ask the driver a couple of times if they would wait so I could use the toilet, and they have (thankfully, much appreciated as I would otherwise have needed to wait for the next bus). For a coach...

    Trivia: Earliest 'last connection' of day

    I'm sure it can be beaten, but, the best I could find is the 04:58 arrival at Barnham from Bognor Regis. If this misses the 05:15 departure then you wouldn't be able to make it to Rosslare Europort (via Fishguard Harbour) until 05:30 the next day rather than 17:30.

    LnW/TfW Only Shrewsbury -> Euston

    Thank you for your detailed answers; will buy the ticket off GTR, then at least I have the 2 pdfs. It's a shame that it seems like the issue is not an easy fix, it would be nice if they at least implemented some text in retail sites such that when you buy a more expensive LnW (/tfW only) ticket...

    LnW/TfW Only Shrewsbury -> Euston

    Hi all, I hold an advance single as an e-ticket for travel from Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury on Monday 6th November. I want to travel onwards to London using the following fare: https://www.brfares.com/!faredetail?orig=SHR&dest=EUS&rlc=YNG&rte=371&tkt=OPS (Super off peak single routed LnW/TfW...

    Manchester London Glasgow Manchester.

    If advance tickets are being used, Avanti Superfare may be an option. These are very cheap fares, but you are not able to choose which train you travel on, only the date - afaik you can choose morning/afternoon/evening, so should be able to ensure arriving in time for the concert. These would...

    Newcastle to Durham - choice of TOC

    One thing you could do, if you wanted a return ticket valid on any TOC is buy a ticket from a station where fares to Durham are not set by LNER. You could buy an off-peak day return (£9.00 - valid only after 08:59 M-F) or anytime day return (£10.60) from Dunston to Durham at the ticket office...

    Booked train has disappeared off National Rail website

    For future journeys, have you considered using a West Midlands Day Ranger and travelling via Leamington/Birmingham on XC? Reading -> Banbury off peak day return (£10.25) Banbury -> Leamington Spa off peak day return (£7.05) West Midlands Day Ranger (£21.10) Crewe -> Liverpool off peak day...

    School buses vs public buses

    That makes sense. I was actually slightly surprised (and relieved, given I needed to be in Aberystwyth before the next bus would have arrived) that I was allowed to board where I did due to the overcrowding. Nobody was denied travel, but it certainly seems like strengthening is needed between...

    School buses vs public buses

    I was on the 15:15 T2 from Bangor to Aberystwyth recently, which departs 10 minutes later than the standard service at XX:05. Allocating an appropriate bus to this whole journey would be incredibly challenging, given the bus was full and standing with mostly schoolkids all the way to Penygroes...

    Avanti Conductor/TM Familiarity with NR C.O.T 14.3

    To update, I actually ended up arriving at Euston in time for the 17:47 (Called Rugby and MKC), and travelled to Crewe via Stoke on Trent. My tickets were not actually checked, aside from at Euston, but wouldn't have expected any issues anyway. Additionally... Amazing last few minutes at the...

    Avanti Conductor/TM Familiarity with NR C.O.T 14.3

    Thank you everyone for your responses - it is a fairly significant saving on any other combinations I could find which would let me use Avanti, so I will attempt to use it. Hopefully the TM will be familiar with such splits, and glad to have not heard any horror stories - worst case I will just...

    Avanti Conductor/TM Familiarity with NR C.O.T 14.3

    Thank you for your response - I'm aware of the restrictions on the ranger, will be travelling home from Crewe rather than back to Shrewsbury. My concern however is, I was hoping to take advantage of condition 14.3 in the conditions of travel, that being: 14.3 Unless Condition 14.1 applies, if...

    Avanti Conductor/TM Familiarity with NR C.O.T 14.3

    Hi all. I will be travelling to London for the day in the near future, due to travelling from and returning to different destinations, the cheapest way I have found to do this seems to be to split using a West Midlands Day Ranger. The tickets I intend to use are as follows: West Midlands Day...

    Fratton to Canterbury via Barnham

    Thank you - after searching, I have found a negative easement that is prohibiting these tickets being sold, turns out I could not find it before because I was searching for WMR/LNR/TFW ONLY and it still uses the old name of the restriction (ATW/LM only), but I just checked all easements...

    Fratton to Canterbury via Barnham

    That would be much appreciated, thank you. The route is 00371 WMR/LNR/TFW ONLY. If this is the case, are these hidden restrictions enforceable?

    Fratton to Canterbury via Barnham

    Apologies to bump this thread, but I have found what appears to be another example of this. I would rather not share the details, since I think it does undercut the intended fare, although if someone is able to advise privately I would be happy to. I would like to use a TOC restricted ticket...

    UK DOO trains having 30-45 seconds door closing time seems be too excessive

    I am aware of this, afaik in lots of cases you would not be allowed to board at all (regardless of being there when the train arrives), and having this new flag would allow for trains to make calls which may be useful for some people, without sacrificing the opportunity to run ahead of schedule.

    UK DOO trains having 30-45 seconds door closing time seems be too excessive

    One thing that hasn't been bought up, is a flag I've seen in American timetables, "This train calls primarily to drop off passengers, and may depart up to X minutes earlier than advertised departure time." This could be used for trains departing major cities at rush hour, allowing for...

    Trivia: Stations more than one change from London

    Technically, Maryhill and Possilpark and Parkhouse can be done with one change from London - taking the sleeper to Garelochead or Helensburgh Upper, and then changing there for the one daily Southbound train originating in Oban which calls at these stations. The other stations between Anniesland...

    Northern strike timetables

    The Wilmslow arrangement may have changed, as I know TfW trains did call (with restrictions) during the industrial action around June time. Unsure on Avanti arrangements, but, previously during strikes they have only ran a skeleton non-evening service. I would not expect the restrictions...
