FirstGroup awarded London Cable Car contract

Perhaps we'll see the return of "FCC", with First Cable Car?

    Car Transporter trains on WCML

Is that much of a problem on vehicles designed to be driven outside?

    Car Transporter trains on WCML

I didn't realise modern cars would fit inside our loading gauges

    british rail seat moquette

Please ensure you are travelling in the correct part of the suit... It's interesting that TfL/LT moquette seems to be big business - I know a surprising number of non-rail enthusiasts who have some moquette cushions or scarfs etc from the LT museum. But you don't ever really see it with BR...

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

Are there plans to incorporate one in the station rebuild itself? (rather than the adjacent "great wall" housing blocks)

Thank you very much @stadler, this is very useful!

Farewell B.R 'circus horn' and Emma Hignett

Could anybody provide some pictures of the different board types? Daktronics, infotec and Connex? I don't know which ones are which from memory, and so which ones had the four trumpet chime. And I can't find any clear results when searching Google.

Farewell B.R 'circus horn' and Emma Hignett

It sounds much faster there than I remember

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

I think this is good. One (incredibly rare) bit of genuine praise for Railtrack was there refurbs of the major terminis and these logos, so I'm glad they are being kept.

TRIVIA: Examples of train refurbishments (past or present) that were a step up from the same train's previous interior

Agreed. Often overlooked is the improvements made to the doors and circulation areas (ie placement of grab-poles and handrails and bins, the perch seats, the sections of transverse seating) which helped speed up boarding and alighting. This makes a huge difference on an intensive metro service...

Closed Passenger Stations still retaining B.R. Regional Signage after Passenger Closure?

Bramley & Wonersh (closed during Beeching) has some vintage looking signs but I have no idea if they are original or replicas.

Not only that, it's also likely not representive of the population as a whole.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

SWR guards on my morning train from Guildford to Waterloo have clearly been told they need to announce every upcoming departure from Woking for people who are changing trains to get to eg Weybridge or Walton. That's fine, it could be useful for people. But christ do they really need to go on for...

Euston station toilets in a disgusting state

Having lived within walking distance of Euston for many years, the area around the station is less than salubrious. There's also very little else in the way of free public toilets available nearby, so these toilets see a lot of use beyond just passengers. If there were more toilets available...

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

Given the speeds at which some yobbos shoot up the road, bollards are welcome to me. I wonder if it's also designed to counter people doing "dump and runs" which might hold up traffic.

Closed Passenger Stations still retaining B.R. Regional Signage after Passenger Closure?

Indeed, I think the last bits were only cleared in the prep works for the Croxley Rail Link about eight years ago or so.

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

I was wondering if this was being done by Surrey Council, National Highways or Network Rail. I just checked on Surrey Councils map of roadworks, it appears to be Network Rail Infrastructure Limited that are responsible for the closure and works: https://one.network/?GB137534560 Seems a shame...

Worst examples of BR era "vandalism"?

Holborn Viaduct station. The hotel was replaced with a terrible office block. Yes the hotel was damaged in the blitz, but it still took twenty years for BR to get around to demolishing it, which would have been enough time to restore it.
