TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

I think there are sufficient 197's replacing them. Remember they don't just operate on the Valley lines.

    TfW ‘Active Travel’ Class 153s

A Tweet from Modern Railways show the proposed layout of the 153/5 https://twitter.com/Modern_Railways/status/1770424260118360239?t=LWwEG6iiU2-tst2QqN0-FA&s=19

    Wrexham, Shropshire & Midlands Railway

Interesting that SLC is involved. Aren't these the people who are now Rail Adventure? Wild speculation, 43 hauled services??

    Class 175 future speculation

Good point. It's going to be interesting if they do a big bang switchover

    Class 175 future speculation

I would imagine the current TfW staff who maintain the 158's will be TUPEd over to CAF and trained on the maintenance of the 197's. If there is an overnight 'big bang' I would imagine when it is done it will be during the quiet season when there are fewer services, less impact.

TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

According to a Facebook group a 150 comes off lease soon. Anyone have details?

    Class 175 future speculation

It was definitely a 175 and it was in multiple with another unit crossing the M4 bridge at Newport on the Ebbw Vale line. It was some years ago but I remember seeing it and thinking what a waste of a 175, running it up there! These were Ariva days.

    Class 175 future speculation

Sorry but I have seen 175's coupled to 150's before. Not frequently but it has happened.

Why aren't the FLIRTs more nationally widespread?

When you consider the 231's are a fleet of 11 trains only then you understand the expense. They are really good trains, but the FLIRT is a continental loading guage unit and the UK ones are one off short batches to their loading guage.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

5Q48 Crewe to Holyhead with a branded 805 is logged as an Avanti service and not ROG. Does this mean training has begun?

Mark Harper announces in Llandudno North Wales electrification

They have nothing at all to do with Boris. Anything Scotland will be the Scottish Parliament and the Oakhampton is down to GWR and their efforts.n

Mark Harper announces in Llandudno North Wales electrification

The rail infrastructure in Wales isn't devolved with the exception of the Cardiff Valley lines. However they do run the rail services. This should have been something that they should have been involved in. Likewise Network Rail. However this is totally a scheme dreamed up on the back of a beer...

Mark Harper announces in Llandudno North Wales electrification

Exactly. The money for HS2 was borrowed year on year by the DfT for the project. Cancelling it.saved nothing. They have committed to borrow a wadge of cash to electrify a line without any plan, project or business case. This is entirely political and I would shocked if a single wire is put up.

Mark Harper announces in Llandudno North Wales electrification

I was listening to the excellent Green Signals podcast today. They asked the question how much has actually been achieved? The answer is nothing.

Mark Harper announces in Llandudno North Wales electrification

TfW didn't know anything. Nor did Network Rail, the Welsh Government, DfT or any of the industry bodies in Wales. This is simply an example of Tory policy written in a conference hotel room at 3am. It was so they could bash Welsh Labour. The whole scheme is a joke.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

At the moment yes, but they are having a large fleet upgrade and plans have been mentioned for five coach trains, splitting for Aberystwyth and Cambrian Coast along the way. Could be this year. If they run Shrewsburys then do they need less 805's?

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

Changing trains at New Street is not an attractive proposition for anyone. I wonder if this is why there is talk of an Open Access provider from Shropshire which has been mentioned somewhere?

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

So why would they buy a unit that goes slower than the ones they have?

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

Posted an image of 805005 heading to Holyhead on test in the Facebook Railcam gallery. Someone in the comments is saying these will be slower than Voyagers as they don't tilt. My impression was they would have the acceleration to make up for that and overall would do the trip in the same time...
