    MML Electrification: progress updates

Looking at the installation at St. Pancras Thameslink the bar is pretty chunky as are the supports and wouldn't be surprised that catenary would be better solution to maximise rail to wire height distance.

Potential up to 2,000 job losses at Alstom Derby

On Greensignals podcast Alstoms MD Nick Crossfield was very clear that if Litchurch Lane had other UK orders ie the extra 345s they would have executed this order from Derby but nothing materialised in time so their being built in Poland.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Maybe but there is large amount of passenger benefit not being realised across multiple operators and this is costing someone serious money which can only drive up the cost of any future orders.

Plans announced to open a new train maintenance facility at Shipley

Presumably that implies no York to Leeds electrification before then either?

DHELM: Why are UK railways so bad?

One is DOO one isn't Yes but too much slack is as bad as too little as trains arrive at jcns too early and get held and then waste a load of energy reaccelerating. Passengers also wonder why their train is sitting at a station thinking something is wrong. BR used to promote there was a direct...

    East Coast Timetable Dec 24

Given that you have to wonder why there have now been two abortive attempts to revamp the timetable especially the most recent attempt. My guess is the current timetable will now stay until Trans Pennine Upgrade is completed.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Other than Covid disruption the rest of it was a known requirement before the order was signed so at best a years delay is being generous. Mind you as we know this isn't isolated with delays across multiple stock types across the UK. So it ought to be a subject of a Transport Select Committee...

DHELM: Why are UK railways so bad?

Been on numerous trains from several operators today all ran to time well presented and even had tickets checked on a couple of them but know all too well when it falls apart you are on your own and you have to question the industry goal that its Putting the Passenger First

    ASLEF strikes W/c 6th May

Labour wont be repeating that mistake if anything i suspect the only thing that will be an offer is an appeal to the union to accept a modestly improved offer in the spirit of making Labours life a bit easier.

    The last coal train?

Nice article by Guardian to remind people of how much coal contributed to our society and communities almost a bit conflicting for them given their green agenda these days. I liked this quote which shows how interwined railfreight was with coal fired electricity generation

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

They had to commit to that connection agreement well before the trial site at Hambleton could be commissioned and proven in use. Grid operators don't really want this extra kit hanging off primary transmission lines but if NR want 80MVA (not sure why here mind you) they have to connect at this...

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

Well given they can connect at 132kV and avoid all the additional lineside infrastructure the answer should be yes.

    ECML Power Supply Upgrade

Thanks for posting i like technical! This is what the IET (IEE as was) did when i a junior engineer in the 80's but seems to have ceded that space to the PWI so all credit to them in continuing to be proactive in showcasing what electrification is about today.
