Northumberland Line to be re-opened to passengers

The runs so far have only been for “stakeholder” / publicity events and Driver / conductor manager route knowledge. Route learning for the instructor drivers and normal traincrew has not commenced along any of the route

Odd TPE service: 1P09 1844 Manchester Airport to Darlington

IIRC it’s for route retention Northallerton - Darlington for the York link that signs Saltburn but not Newcastle. It replaced the Saltburn via Darlington services as they no longer sign Darlington to Eaglescliffe

Northumberland Line to be re-opened to passengers

It’s not the 90 mph capabilities but rather the braking capability of the units which require 158s. Very tight timetable apparently and tests were taken out on other lines to see how much time could be saved

ASLEF Strike LNER & Northern 1st March

Did the previous poster misread this as having “fixed rest days” meaning same days off every week and not “fixed rest day pattern“ meaning 4 in, 3 off or the equivalent. It is correct though that some depots including my owns guards roster doesn’t seem to have a fixed pattern to it (might be a...

The "Durham Coast Fliers" - Popular? No stop Hartlepool?

You are reading too much into this, there is still a lot of work happening in the lift / footbridge areas. The reason for the stop is that is was pathed behind the 2 Northern stopping services towards Stockton / Nunthorpe

The "Durham Coast Fliers" - Popular? No stop Hartlepool?

The Hartlepool “unadvertised” stop does not appear on traincrew diagrams and trains will run through without stopping. It’s just pretty much a placeholder for when they do stop

New Year's Day 2024 in the North East

It's compulsory to time any train (passenger or non passenger) to stop there due to the stop board at Gypsy Lane and await the white crossing lights. It not required to pick up / drop off passengers. Indeed prior to the 2019 timetable change st least one train didn't going towards Nunthorpe

    TPE Plan for the future

I believe there are separate links at York based on traction, one was the Class 802 link which signed Newcastle and the other was the Class 68 link which signs Boro (class 185 knowledge probably spread between both). But the latter link would need Darlington knowledge

    Rail prosecution

I’m reading it as they bought one “open” return ticket and used it multiple times whilst just buying new singles for the outward part

    New sign at Sleights

It’s a sign for the crossing FPW is Footpath with wicket gates MBW3 is the engineer line reference - MBW is Middlesbrough to Whitby and 3 refers to the portion between Grosmont Junction and Whitby And the easy bit is Miles and Chains from the zero point which is probably Middlesbrough

No more off peak singles ?

I was just going off a cursory search of RTT but you’re right. Either way the OP took the 1416 which was an Avanti so it looks like the cheapest option if that was the intention was the £46 through ticket to Sutton Coldfield and Haywains theory could be correct

No more off peak singles ?

I’m getting the impression the OP thought the price would be cheaper. However there’s no direct trains to allow travel on the £29 LNR only ticket (bus replacement Milton Keynes - Northampton) which is the only cheaper choice for today and the £19 Super Off Peak not being valid

    December 2023 Timetable Change

185s make almost daily trips to Darlington on an early morning trip from York to Saltburn and returning on a night empty from Saltburn back to York for route retention purposes EDIT. It seems unless I’m mistaken this is being changed in December and they’ll run via Yarm the usual route instead

    December 2023 Timetable Change

Same thing appeared in the timetable (even the public pdf one which I think is still on the website ) for May and didn’t happen. I don’t think it’s worth getting excited about until it happens

Return of steam on a token basis

It was done on a portion of the route (Skipton - Appleby) as an advertisement for the full line reopening after being closed for a year IIRC. It did not the full Leeds to Carlisle unless you are saying we make people change trains as well to allow this folly
