How critical is the return of passengers and busy trains for railway jobs?

Ok, well I’m a frontline railwaywoman so is that top trumps? I know there’s issues that need sorting. God knows there are. And as for that poster, well, I’ve read their contributions. ....

How critical is the return of passengers and busy trains for railway jobs?

Let’s have a week of stuff being open before we pave over the 4foot shall we? Much as you’re salivating over the thought.

How critical is the return of passengers and busy trains for railway jobs?

I wonder if local authorities have more say in the building of bus stations rather than private companies (200 years ago in some cases...)

No, that aviation doesn’t, directly it indirectly,

    Expensive station car parks...

The railway is largely run by civil servants and former bus company managers. There’s the odd “railway person,” but not like there once was.

    Expensive station car parks...

I take your point. But I think they should be initially encouraged. Along the lines of no tax until 2025 kind of thing, speed up the uptake.

    Expensive station car parks...

I think most Pancras based drivers (certainly EMR) live in Bedford or nearer Brighton and get Thameslink in. Rather them than me. Not that they’re particularly over-worked at that depot....

    Expensive station car parks...

I guess we should all have our personal property stored for free for ten hours then? Bikes: absolutely, we should encourage that. Free parking for electric cars also. But the same as town centres, I don’t expect other people / companies to pay to store my private property for me for free...

Transfer of LNER HST 125s to East Midlands Railway (EMR)

Because it’s Railforums and it’s full of “enthusiasts,” who seemingly despise the railway because they know better how it should be run...

8 car trains stopping at 12 car platform position

If you stop a 5 car train at the 5 car SDO on Bedford platform 1 on the down then the approach released signal at the end of the platform won’t come off as you’re not close enough. But I expect the mega-minds on here (that both simultaneously need to post a thread on a forum for trainspotters...

8 car trains stopping at 12 car platform position

Are you seriously comparing overshooting an SDO board with Southall and Ladbroke Grove? Because if you are then I suggest you might need to give your head a bit of a wobble... 1617176440 Yep, early 80’s to 2020 is just sheer luck.

8 car trains stopping at 12 car platform position

Until a few months ago the route I used to drive on in ye olde times had non-SDO 8 coach HST’s stopping at an SDO4 station with the back end on a bridge over a canal without any problems. But sure, going further down a platform is a clause 9 offence.

8 car trains stopping at 12 car platform position

Depends on your traction and the station in question. 1617175455 Oh for God’s sake, this forum is so pathetic at times.....

How critical is the return of passengers and busy trains for railway jobs?

The railway also isn’t short of managers. So so many layers of management. They’re very good at emails, and making YouTube videos about how they like to be “out and about,” in the business, and I’m sure a lot of them do important work, but still....

How critical is the return of passengers and busy trains for railway jobs?

However much it irks the failed drivers and generally envious on here, it’s still the hardest grade to replace (although not impossible) with a touchscreen computer or VDU monitor without spending a few billion pounds. 1617088663 I don’t think it was a serious comment. But also, if we consider...

How critical is the return of passengers and busy trains for railway jobs?

Yep. That’s it, games over they’ll never come back. 2019 was the high-water mark for railway use, and the people of this forum rejoiced. Just like in the 70’s/80’s when the network was in “terminal decline,” and BR rationalised and singled lines etc. That went well, the passenger numbers...

    Body cameras for Northern staff

Maybe it’s my..... AlterEgo...... But in all seriousness, people can see me when I go outside and I accept that. Broadcasting my name address and profession to random trainspotters on a forum is a different matter.

Unless you’re invisible people can see you in public.

    Most Unreliable Multiple Unit

That’s probably more to do with the timetable being so padded to accommodate a 50 car Thameslink moving fresh air from Bedford to St Pancras every ten seconds.
