Clearing the Air - RDG Report

It's as disingenuous as comparing a rock bottom Ryanair fare to an Anytime ticket bought on the day. *Some* train fares in this country are simply too expensive. The end.

[Trivia] Largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge but no lifts?

I know there's one with no accessible access to one platform so you need to one stop in the other direction and change, but I can't remember which one exactly - somewhere in Southeastern land maybe.

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

There definitely needs to be a halfway house between letting them off scot free and shouting "CRIMINAL OFFENCE, PROSECUTION!". Maybe charged the full single, refundable on proof within X days that the passenger had purchased the correct ticket.

    Supermarkets discussion

“She’s a PhD in I told you so, you’ve a knighthood in I’m not listening”, excellent line! EDIT: It’s simply “Don’t Marry Her”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_Marry_Her

Northern manual checks of mobile tickets

Evidently not if it's rejecting perfectly valid tickets (barriers always work fine doing the return journey)

Buckshaw Parkway, but yes the same ticket type.

Northern manual checks of mobile tickets

Hi All I regularly commute in Manchester from the Bolton direction, and while the closest station to my office is Salford Crescent (so I usually alight there in the morning and walk), I buy my ticket through to Manchester as firstly it’s the same price, and secondly it gives me the flexibility...

    Conscription.

    No longer a superpower, no.

Euston departure board to be moved

In my experience the text messages came through at the same time the platform was announced, or so near to it that it didn’t make any kind of difference.

Engineering works between Manchester and Bolton

Oooo so *that’s* why the Blackpool - Airport routinely has to wait outside Salford Crescent.

School party, right date, wrong barcode (Avanti)

    Truly pathetic company.

    Remaining Effects of Covid

This sign is still up on the bridges at Salford Quays: Because famously, respiratory viruses always keep to the walking direction, and never under any circumstances deviate, especially outdoors.

CAF donations to the Conservative Party

    A perfectly reasonable view IMO.

Do you prefer Avanti 390s or Avanti 221s?

    221 pre-refurb, 390 post-refurb. That said, I don't actually like either.

    Class 319 Northern departure

I remember this one well, it used P1 at Manchester Oxford Road, seem to remember it being a 156+153.

    Class 319 Northern departure

Just because things were terrible once, doesn't mean they should be terrible again  331s to 323s is a significant downgrade, I'd probably start driving to work again.

    Class 319 Northern departure

Urgh, not 3+2 seating on Manchester to Blackpool <(

    Class 319 Northern departure

Don't Metro fund the fourth car on the 333s, or at least cover those routes being 4-car?
  19. Lampshade

    Class 319 Northern departure

Absolutely ridiculous decision if that’s genuinely the plan, it’s a 6 car route all day long. Waste of money extending the platforms at Adlington and Blackrod if so.

    Class 195 - dangerous doors?

That’s the worst feature of any product ever.
