    Mk3 Coaches on Oyster

Many people on here have probably done it when they were younger, and maybe still do it now. The difference is they probably realise its not the best thing to do and that its dangerous and don't try to justify it and saying that is allowed and sanctioned. On a preserved line there is usually...

    Mk3 Coaches on Oyster

and? Maybe you should write to the TOC's who use slam door stock and ask for clairification, I'm sure they will tell you that its a rather silly thing to do and dangerous. If you got slapped on the face at 100mph with a rose bush would you try to obtain compensation? Hanging your head out...

    Mk3 Coaches on Oyster

Have you never read the warning signs above the doors on slam door stock? ;) --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Also, if you travel say, Liverpool Street to Stratford on a 'pick up only' service you will be liable to pay the full undiscounted fare to the first stop where one is...

Tourists / visitors that fall foul of the rail regs

I got no special treatment in Thailand (lets ignore the bar girls), the rail network there is very casual and like the UK, the locals know where the "free trains" are. When I went there I did'nt travel on the 'tourist trail' but to be fair I had a perfectly valid ticket for my 1st class sleeper...

Tourists / visitors that fall foul of the rail regs

and just because somebody is foreign it does not mean that they are excempt from the Conditions of Carriage etc etc. Just because somebody is foreign it does not mean that they automatically do not know. I've travelled by train in loads of different Countries and I certainly take care to ensure...

    Manchester - Staines

Thats what I thought. I never thought of the Manchester - Oxford option too. I'm surprised the ticket types are not 'Any Permitted' and 'Not London' but VT should not be kicking up a fuss (if they do) but a VT ticket office clerk would not sell him it (asked him if he was travelling via London)...

    Manchester - Staines

Just judging peoples opinion really. From Manchester to Staines there are 2 tickets a 'Route Any Permitted' and 'Route London'. Now I am 100% sure that the cheaper 'Any Permitted' is valid via London and that its just an anomality however a friend of mine was told that it was not valid via...

    London to Calais fares?

We only travelled home from Northern Ireland on a Port Tax ticket and all we paid was the port tax and used our first group boxes on Scotrail. I personally (unless im wrong about railsail) would buy the PRIV to Dover then make my own way to the Docks and pay the Port Tax (when I did Stena from...

    Season ticket print quality

If its swiped through the Advantix the details will show on the screen, ditto expiry dates on YP, FAM & SNR railcards. However if the ticket is a little battered or if the magnetic strip is damaged it won't work. A lighter can do the trick but I would'nt recomend it!

Caledonian Sleeper with All Lines Rover

Wise words from Tim R-T-C there, I ended up with a dead couple of hours in Whitland and found out rather quickly that there was nothing there! Same happened in Slovakia, I had checked the DB International timetable prior to going away and had planned a train from Ciera Nad Tisaou to Chop...

Northern Rail up fight against trainline

At least he does not look as much of a tw** as the bloke holding the ticket with the smug look on the Trainline's posters

Absurd argument trying to buy a ticket!

Or if you went to the local corner shop to buy a paper and a pint of milk. When you go to the counter the owner is in the back getting a delivery. As he was busy and there was nobody else to serve you, you just work out as its up to the owner to serve you and not for you to tell him you need to...

Absurd argument trying to buy a ticket!

Cheers. Thats pretty bad that on them to occasions that the Guard had that attituite, thats terrible! Yes we may be busy doing something else, but we still should be avalible for passengers questions. The only times I've ignored knocks on the doors is when an angry and aggresive passenger has...

Absurd argument trying to buy a ticket!

Why not? I've had passengers knocking on my cab door and I've happily sold them a ticket. Someone mentioned a que of people knocking on the back cab....do you really think that would happen? Guards will always be happy to sell somebody a ticket, there might have been a perfectly good reason why...
