Cyclists - your experiences on the road

ironic that cyclists are harping on about the Highway Code when they are the least likely to read or adhere to it.

Should a 'road tax' be introduced for cyclists?

I don't think they should have a tax in the same way as vehicles but I do think riders should be required to wear helmets, high viz and lights at the least. That in its own way is a tax while promoting safety. It's mind boggling that they are considered one of the highest vulnerability...

Should a 'road tax' be introduced for cyclists?

You won't get fewer parked cars though, just the opposite. People won't give up their cars entirely so when they are out cycling then their cars will be parked up causing issues as you describe. More cycling, more parked cars, more problems. Developers should take some of the criticism for...

    Lorries tailgating

Don't know where that quote came from but that is a rather stupid justification for tailgating.

Have electric vehicles been "oversold" to the detriment of public transport, walking and cycling?

Fair enough on the solar panels, but I suspect most people charging at home would be via the mains. And yes of course fossil based fuels have production emissions but they (nor ICE drivers) are claiming to be greener than green.

Have electric vehicles been "oversold" to the detriment of public transport, walking and cycling?

You can guarantee the electricity you use is from wind, water or sun can you? What about the vast amounts of emissions from mining battery materials and their construction?

Overtaking on motorways and the application of the Highway Code in this area

Most people that drive like idiots are probably perfectly capable of driving normally during a test so I don't see how constant retesting will make much difference. In the occupations you list above, its in their interest to not brake rules etc as its part of their job and have regular...

Road pricing back on the agenda to replace loss of fuel and vehicle excise duty due to electric vehicles?

Who says the Mustang is only dong 1000 miles and the Corsa 40000 miles? The Mustang could quite easily do 40000 miles and the Corsa 1000...they could quite easily both be doing 10000 miles or any other number. The only real difference is fuel usage and VAT on fuel.

Road pricing back on the agenda to replace loss of fuel and vehicle excise duty due to electric vehicles?

Well ICE vehicles are not going anywhere are they. Even when the new petrol/diesel sale ban comes into affect in 2030 there will still be 10's of millions of ICE vehicles and VED requirements for years and years. Increase the VED and make electric vehicles pay a %. Also go back to the old...

Road pricing back on the agenda to replace loss of fuel and vehicle excise duty due to electric vehicles?

The uptake of fully electric vehicles isn’t that high at the moment. Even when new diesel and petrol engine vehicles are banned, current ICE vehicles will be around for a very very long time so VED will still have its part. No reason why you couldn‘t have a two tier system...continuation of VED...

Road pricing back on the agenda to replace loss of fuel and vehicle excise duty due to electric vehicles?

Or...make electric vehicles pay a portion of VED and get rid of the 0% bracket.

    Operation Snap

What was the reason given for the other cars headlights going out and the car pulling into your lane? Did it hit something?

I'll take my magic wand shall I.

Parking on Pavements (DfT consultation Sept 2020)

Jeez this is going around in circles. We are NOT talking just about flats or dense housing or inner cities. If I visit my parents tomorrow who live in a village with no further parking guess where I will be parking. Get it out of your head that the world stops at the boundary of a city or town.

Parking on Pavements (DfT consultation Sept 2020)

Not sure why you are focusing on "dense housing". Look at any new build estate (even in the sticks) and you are lucky if you have space for two cars...and yes that maybe appropriate for the next few years, but as kids in households grow older, or parents grow older there will be need to park...

    Driverless HGV convoys being trialled

I don't see the benefit. Couplings and its mountings can't weigh that much when all things considered surely? ...and in the event of an accident, wouldn't you wan't a sturdier, albeit heavier, under frame anyway?
