    Grassington branch

Spent a lot of time up there on track renewals in the early mid 90's. Just about relaid the entire branch from Skipton station up to the quarry boundary under the last bridge.

England-Oslo-Copenhagen -England by train and ferry, any better/more interesting routes?

Not quite the same route, but back in July 1972 (possibly 71) I was on a school trip from Southport. We traveled by train to Newcastle, then on to the Fred Olsen ferry to Bergen. Then caught the coastal mail boat to Trondheim, I think we called at 25 Docks and other locations in a 40 hour run...

    Leeds to Ilkley line

Bramhope is not on the Leeds - Ilkley but on the Harrogate line although there was a connection via Arthington and Menston to the Ilkley line but now lifted. My photo of the Harrogate end portal of the tunnel one frosty morning after a tamping shift.

    Leeds to Ilkley line

To me the scenic bit is from Menston to Ilkley . How long does that take to do 4 1/2 miles?

    Snowdon Mountain Railway

Even if it does run the weather may mean the trip is curtailed short of summit. No guarantees.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway Food Recommendations

I would go with the first comment and use the Royal. However if feeling flush and want to eat in, I would use Trenchers over the roundabout from the station. The Seafood salad beats any other.

Coastliner 840 between York & Pickering

Yes it misses the first turn off and uses the second one. Then runs to the Mallyan roundabout and turns round and retraces its steps back to the A169.

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and Windermere cruise.

Called in at Haverthwaite last year and the carpark was full midweek out of main season. About 8 coaches in the drop off area / coach park with drivers in cafe on their break, prior to running to other end of lake for the next pick up.

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and Windermere cruise.

DEMIC quite common to the east of the pennines as well. Intended meaning - Scrap or condemmed rolling stock.

    Temple Hurst Jct

Just South of T Hirst Jcn the ECML passes over the Wakefield - Goole line. This usually provides the chance of a train passing over a freight of some description.

Thanks for the replies. As you say Sleeper looks the best bet.

    York - Newquay and return.

Its the earliest arrival I can make at Newquay that is the bigger question. Don't know what day yet as it's for a funeral, date and time not known yet. I can juggle any route and will be on Staff Travel card.

    York - Newquay and return.

It looks like I will need to make a very short notice trip to Newquay from York. Not fussed about route or timings but what is the earliest I can get to Newquay from York? Also the latest I can leave Newquay and get back to York?

    Day return from York

Train only. Idea is just me musing on possibilities. Thanks again.
