    Citywing goes into liquidation

Isn't this the third (perhaps even fourth) airline operating the Cardiff-Valley flights to fail (one might have been a safety case issue rather than financial)?

    Manchester Metrolink master thread

My specific idea is not in the Manchester area, I'm talking about the Swansea area. Since no current tram links exist in that area there would be no problem with the trams and tram-trains being low-floor. If you want more details of my idea I can provide them, but since it's off topic I'll say...

    Manchester Metrolink master thread

We're drifting a bit off the Metrolink topic onto tram-trains, but I have an example of where I think a dual-voltage low-floor tram-train would be useful. You have a frequent city-centre tram network, with a fast heavy rail route passing close to the city outskirts with some stations...

Is that two old trams in the yellow livery or the two vehicles of one old tram uncoupled?

    Tram-train concept and technical discussion

I think I read that the vehicles for the tram-train pilot are going to have dual-voltage capability. Is that correct? Also, are they going to be low-floor or high-floor? If the answers to my questions are "yes" and "low-floor" they sound ideal for my idea of serving the two HOWL stations on...

In my opinion Altrincham - Piccadilly already needs doubles at some times when the Altrincham-Bury service isn't running (or increase the hours/days of Altrincham-Bury operation). I also wouldn't be supprised if all services were full in the peaks even if everything was doubles.

So the new ones can get up to speed in places then, thanks.

That's what I thought, but then I saw somebody using a wheelchair, and a wheelchair space, on an old tram. Is there only one wheelchair space on the old ones as opposed to the two on the M5000? I think it was suggested earlier that the rough ride was caused by the T68s. If so, are there any...

Thanks for the information. Thought so. How different is a tram-train from a plain tram? Is it only the enhanced safety or is a tram-train more train-like too? If the latter, how much would the M5000 design (not already built units, as I imagine the alterations would be too significant to...

Why are the final 20 different? Wow, that's alot more seats than the new trams. The new trams are a big step backwards in seating capacity terms then. Altrincham line. There definately seemed to be 6 minute service later on when waiting for the train at Altrincham, must have just come along at...

Different numbers of seats? I've never noticed anything different between individual units when I've been on the trams, except for the difference between mrk3s and mrk1s/2s (which seem the same, I saw 1007 today though which was different as I've been told on here before, but didn't get a ride...

True it's exposed, but I'm not sure how you could provide shelter from the wind bar putting glass walls (similar to some tube stations) between platform and tram. Speaking of which, I experience discomfort far more often when arriving at Piccadilly on a Sunday evening and wanting the ALT tram...

Thanks all, seems a bit odd that one stop is more expensive to maintain than another but it would explain it. I noticed today that several of the platform information displays in central Manchester where saying trams were headed to East Disbury even though the extention is currently only run...

Why did they want to close that one again? It hasn't got a short platform like Mosley Street, has it?

Thanks for the replies martin2345uk, gnolife, Manchester77 and snowball. Assuming 1007 was/is the only one with different seats, why was this done?, and is it still around or is it withdrawn? So TMS is already in operation on some stretches then?

What's different about 1007? I thought all the T68s (mark1s and mark2s) had the same interior, at least it looks that way to me when I've been on them. Is EML2 another partial phase or all the way to Ashton Under Lyme? I thought that one wasn't opening until 2014, has it been completed early...

Thanks, I guess that kinda makes sense. Still, by the time you got to Market Street from Mosley Street you might have missed the tram and have to run back to Piccadilly Gardens to try and get the next one.

Why does the lack of 'next tram' screens stop them closing the Mosley Street stop? Thanks for posting these to help folk (including me) understand. I would however like to add a bit more detail, which I believe to be correct: M5000 - New Metrolink trams (Numbered in 3xxx series, hence I...

Are series 3xxx trams used in multiple on the Bury - Droylsden service at all, since these do not go through Moseley Street?
