Class 165 on service to Great Malvern

One thing the Networker Turbos and their 3rd rail Networker cousins seem to have in common, is they were both designed for Metro/Suburban working, but often have stepped in to do longer distance workings in their operating areas.

    GWR Waterloo and Euston

So what was the point of the Waterloo IET run(s) then?

    June 2024 Timetable Change

You can, but pre-covid when it was done it required double manning as the turnaround time was too short for one driver to change ends, despite only having to walk the length of a 2 carriage unit.

I got scolded on here several years ago for the reverse: using "mains and reliefs" on the ECML.

    June 2024 Timetable Change

I used to get the 10:03 from PAD-TAU en route to Bridgwater weekly for a number of weeks in 2022 and remember what you describe often happening. When the Taunton stop was removed the 09:36 was also sped up to run fast from Reading-Westbury, presumably to keep it ahead for long enough to make...

    June 2024 Timetable Change

What I think is notable is that despite the new service at 12:05 being slower than the now-express 12:03, until Taunton the gap is quite tight. The 2 minute gap extends to 6 minutes after Reading, but considering Castle-Cary-Cogload Jct is 2 aspect with long signal blocks, I wonder if the 12:05...

Changes to SE metro services next June

I'm pretty sure when it's been Cannon St/London Bridge, which has been the majority of cases, it's run via Greenwich.

Changes to SE metro services next June

The North Kent summer specials are returning this year, with 2 return trips from Cannon St-Ramsgate on Saturdays from early June, and 1 return trip on Sundays during the school holidays. There is no weekday service, which used to exist in the form of 1 outbound only trip in the morning (as the...

    Ramsgate 375s

Hastings and SEML Dover/Ramsgate services are guaranteed 375s if you're after the other 4 car subclasses as well (Ramsgate/Dover Chatham mainline services normally are weekdays, but 377/5s can turn up, especially during engineering works, while 465s appear on Sundays). The Medway Valley line and...

Is there a thread and/or web page detailing this further?

    June 2024 Timetable Change

Thanks for this, I'll try and look when RTT updates in time. Are there plans to even out the down trains on the Sidcup line? While up trains are 18/12 mins apart, the down ones being 23/7 mins apart has been well documented on here as being ridiculous.

    June 2024 Timetable Change

Are there any equivalent fast calling patterns in the Up direction planned? I know there used to be 1x PNZ-PAD that was Plymouth-Exeter-Reading-Paddington in HST days, but disappeared at the end of 2019. The 10:03 and 12:03 both being non-stop from at least Reading to Exeter is equal to the...

    Exeter to Gloucester direct train

In August 2022 I went to Dawlish one evening and met a Dutch student at Exeter St Davids, but on the train from there appeared to develop a joint injury (sudden arm/shoulder dislocation I believe) and wanted help to find a hospital. I searched for some places on Google Maps and suggested them...

Class 465/466 return to the Victoria - Ashford services

What's the situation regarding Networker diagrams on this route? This evening I saw 2 different sets operating on the VIC-AFK services: the usual 15:25 VIC-AFK (and subsequent diagrams), but also the 15:30 AFK-VIC, which I travelled on between Borough Green and Swanley (465919+466042). Is this a...

Changes to SE metro services next June

I don't know the details but I wouldn't be surprised if at least some element of pre-election sweeteners is involved: that tweet coming from the local Tory MP already shows some of that at play, and all the constituencies on the south-east edge of London and NW Kent are Tory held.

Class 465/466 return to the Victoria - Ashford services

I know it's not the Ashford service here, but as previous threads are locked: I saw two different 465 formations on VIC-Dover Priory services today, one was 465906+465/0/1?, seen on the 09:42 VIC-DVP, another was 465905+another unkown BREL 465 that was on the 11:42 VIC-DVP, and diagrams...

    Class 465/466 Ramsgate summer special

On a weekday only 1 special usually runs out to Ramsgate, then it returns empty to Slade Green straight after, presumably to be used in peak services later. Only on weekends and the August Bank Holiday do multiple specials run and in both directions.

    Class 465/466 Ramsgate summer special

Don't know about drivers, but a guard definitely joins/has joined for everywhere east of the Medway towns, as DOO doesn't go beyond there.
