[Trivia] Bus journeys faster than a train journey.

That doesn't count as you have to change by train. Otherwise there would be examples of two nearby stations on seprate lines requiring a long route between them by mutiple train being slower than a bus.

[Trivia] Bus journeys faster than a train journey.

I was surprised to find the other day that the bus from Guildford to Farnham was fast than the train service at certain times of the day. So 19 minutes vs 23 minutes by train. At other times it seems to be 23 minutes, which matches the train service. I'm using today's times, may be during...

£2 fare - but what next?

A hopper fare might encourage more bus usage. For example for some journeys it is faster to take a bus into Guildford town centre and a bus out, rather than stay on a single bus, the long way round. However, only the long way round bus is valid for one ticket. I came across this issue back in...

£2 fare - but what next?

I was using Google Maps to tell me how often buses ran and at the point I finished my pilates class, there wouldn't be one for maybe 20 minutes and it would be almost as fast to walk. I went with what Google Maps said in this case and walked. Good exercise. People may not like Google Maps but...

£2 fare - but what next?

I got caught out last year. Teach me for not checking their Web site first. Google told me buses don't run that often from Guildford Friary Bus station to the Royal Surrey County Hospital. So I walked, as it wouldn't be much slower versus waiting for a bus. After my appointment, which wasn't...

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

Not sure about the K1 and K2 through Surbtion but the K3 does encounter low Bridges I believe.

Journey planner with option solely for buses

Are there any journey planners with an option to solely look up bus timetables? I've tried Google but if you tell it to only include buses, it will come back with trains, if that is much faster. For example, if I look up Guildford to Sutton and I only wish to use buses, Google gives me train...

What will be your first leisure based bus journey after lockdown?

Probably a rail replacement bus. I don't tend to do leisure journeys by bus, save when the railway line is shut and I'm put on a bus.

Italy to ban getting on/off the bus at the front doors

I disagree that hardly anyone will be out over the next few days. Maybe a little less but not hardly anyone. Yes we shouldn't be complacent and we should take precautions but equally we should follow the advice and go about our daily routine. I guess you can argue whether our precautions are...

Italy to ban getting on/off the bus at the front doors

Why isn't public transport suspended in Italy and if its not, why would we do this? I was on the 18:24 form Clapham Junction to Haslemere tonight and it certainly didn't seem less crowded. I was on the X26 bus this morning and it didn't seem less busy. Nor did the K3 yesterday morning.

    London Bus Fare Zones

When did the weekend travelcard go? I remeber that.

    London Bus Fare Zones

I see plenty of bus bunching on routes I use, K3, K2, 71 and 281. The K3 is low frequency so I can understand but the other 3 aren't.

    London Bus Fare Zones

Whilst I don't remember the zones I do remember paying extra for a night bus I think that was on top of the travel card I had. In Oxford, in contrast, a bus ticket was valid was 24 hours. It still is.

Would it be feasible for Transport for London to automate bus stop closure announcements on buses?

Interestingly when there was roadworks outside the Kingston University earlier this year, they did have a temporary bus stop further down the road. However last week when the same bus stop was closed, nothing. I don't know if there is a set number of days the roadworks need to be active for a...

Would it be feasible for Transport for London to automate bus stop closure announcements on buses?

How interesting. I wonder how much it will cost to remove them and what will happen to them? Be recycled? I'd forgotten that TfL are affected by cuts in gocernemrn funding, just like all local authorities were.

Would it be feasible for Transport for London to automate bus stop closure announcements on buses?

It that partly due to the fares freeze? It's interesting how they can afford for people to put up notices at bus stops For example planned diversions or bus stop closures. The government would like to do more in terms of monitoring traffic and offering more advice to motorists about...

Would it be feasible for Transport for London to automate bus stop closure announcements on buses?

Some press the button but others don't. It's hit and miss to say the least but perhaps it relies on the drivers remembering which stops are closed. Edit: actually scrap that. Perhaps is whether it's automated or not and that bit is hit and miss. Today's closures didn't look sudden but they...

Would it be feasible for Transport for London to automate bus stop closure announcements on buses?

Would it be feasible for Transport for London to automate bus stop closure announcements on buses? Could they make use of bus on board GPS for this? Today I was on a K3 buys and two bus stops were closed due to roadworks. We weren't made aware of this, as frequently happens on buses, and the...

What causes later bus stops to show up before earlier bus stops on live timings

I'm using Bus Countdown. It may also go under another name but that is the name of the installed app icon. It could well be due to how they estimate the bus arrival times, although I thought that was done by TfL.
