SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

It is possible they had less pavement works needed compared to Guildford. Also the area inside the booking hall is bigger than the back of Guildford station. I'm just trying to understand the differences that led to the diffeerent approaches.

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

I take it there was more space for them to do this than at Guildford where they had the close the entrance for 2 weeks?

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

How long was the entrance closed at Woking whilst they did the work? Here is another photo from the other day

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

Playing devil's advocate, perhaps they ran out of money. Of course they could have used the additional days the footbridge was closed, and no work was being done, to add an extra bollard, if there was a good reason for it to be there.

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

Photos from Sunday. I was hoping their might have been an online BBC News report on the reopening. They could have titled it, Guildford station footbridge opens on time after works finished 4 days early. I'm not sure if the work finished on Wednesday or Thursday. If Thursday then it is 4 days...

[Trivia] Largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge but no lifts?

I have used both so ideally should know which is steeper but my neurodiverse brain doesn't handle mental images so well. Thus I'm not sure. I think Guildford might be steeper but don't quote me on it.

[Trivia] Largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge but no lifts?

I wasn't aware it had three closed race platforms. I guess those aren't required any more. I must look out for them. I was thinking more in use platforms but I find examples like this interesting too. 1713048096 How steep were the Northallerton ramps compared to say East Croydon or Guildford?

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

I note the footbridge is still closed. I assume they can't reopen it as staff shift patterns all have been agreed in advance and they can't change them. Could they not just reppen it at the times staff don't usually man the back entrance? I'm not being entirely serious with that suggestion.

[Trivia] Largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge but no lifts?

I'm not sure if level access is the right term. When looking up the Croydon redevelopment in 2011, one Web site referred to the station redevelopment as having level access but East Croydon had ramps anyway. So maybe ramps count as level access. 1712916004 I hadn't thought of stations where...

[Trivia] Largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge but no lifts?

I could find this question before but apologies if it's been answered. What is the largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge connecting one or more platforms but no lifts? Or to put it more simply, which is the largest station not to have level access to all platforms. I...

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

Perhaps they are still reviewing the outcomes. Whilst I appreciate they are a private company, it is the season of purdah so I don't know if they would want to delay anything until after the local elections. Maybe that is even why the trail was when it was and why it's not happening at the...

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

I thought ramps didn't count as step free access as if you are in a wheelchair it would be hard to get up the ramp by yourself. I was wrong. Steep ramps still count as step free access. The notes do state it is via steep ramps...

SWR to withdraw public access to Guildford Station Footbridge

The bollards are now complete and the road closuee barriers and traffic lights are gone. I am not sure if they finished today or yesterday but the traffic lighTs were there on Tuesday evening. So will the station footbridge be reopening early or will they stick to the timetable of reopening...

    Gatwick Airport station upgrade

I change trains via the nearest set of stairs or escalators when changing trains, regardless of the footbridge I use. When it came to a recent rail replacement bus service, I tried to exit via the new concourse, only to find the gateline to the outside was closed and one had to go to the other...

Yes, I did mean that. I've ensured it is now correct.

    Gatwick Airport station upgrade

I guess I have never been there when it has been this busy. If they wish to deal with busy platforms, perhaps they could turn their attention to Wimbledon Station. Going back to Gatwick Airport, I still think they need entry barriers here.

    Gatwick Airport station upgrade

I guess what I don't understand is why the large circulating space when all one can do it go down to platforms or exit the station. You can't enter the station here, which seems very odd. I've yet to read a plausible justification for it being this way, vers it having an entry and exit gateline.

Is that just to keep up drivers knowledge of platform 6?

How often do Thameslink services using platform 6? Is it just when there is engineering works?

    Gatwick Airport station upgrade

Well today it could have been Redhill and Haywards Heath. A rare day of direct trains all day. 1710716017 I rarely visit the main station area, beyond changing trains but I don't go through the barriers so haven't seen this new roomy area.
