2021 New track coverage

Last week I finally cleared Coventry to Nuneaton. As well as Oakham to Corby over the Welland Viaduct. I almost missed my connection at Nuneaton, as the train from Leamington Spa was about 10 minutes late by the time it got to Nuneaton. I along with about 8 or so other passengers (not actually with me) had to run to make the Stansted Airport train at Nuneaton. And it was my first ever visit to Melton Mowbray. It's a nice little town.
I actually did Kettering to Corby in 1990. Of course its a little different now.

Something that occurred to me yesterday as I got a Hebden Bridge to Leeds train from the Manchester-bound platform and the crossover - how detailed do people go with their yellow-penning? A route in either direction? A route in both directions? Assorted crossovers and loops?

It's upto you. I just clear a route if I've been on it in at least one direction hence why I like triangular or circular journeys that can be done on one ticket such as Alton - Worplesdon.

I forgot to mention on here that a couple of months ago I cleared that single track curve at Ashford that the majority of trains going to Maidstone traverse. It was only the 2nd time I've done Ashford to Maidstone. The previous occasion was in 1992 and that Curve didn't exist back then.

Yesterday I did the Mid Norfolk Railway from Dereham to Wymondham. Including the turn round at Wymondham.

I keep meaning to do the Robin Hood line, either as a day trip in itself, or do it while going to or from Lancashirr or Leeds

That's a good point - I wonder if we should have a separate thread for "former railway routes covered" or some similar title? There must be lots of scope for it - but probably not a good idea to confuse with bashing existing track?

Did anything come of this idea?

I have a particular interest in walking former railway routes, and before I perhaps start such a thread I thought I'd check with the esteemed readership if anything suitable already exists.

Provided it's separately identified, walking a route (as faithfully as practicable) is a fun way to get the lines you were too young for!

Slightly related, how about 'Last passenger services before closure that I actually travelled on (the actual last timetabled train)'?

At the moment, all Manchester Airport - Redcar Central TPE services do it, which run hourly throughout the day. Timings might be a little inconvenient but it's certainly still easy to do.

St Peter's Square to Victoria via Exchange Street

Two other 'winners' for me yesterday were The station buffet at Stalybridge and the Prince of Orange in Ashton under Lyne
