Yesterday, June 29, i passed one 442 carriage on the M4 near Magor, heading towards Newport. A shiny refurbished one, about to be ripped apart. How many are going by road?

Stripping for spares......

Bit of an irony there, The whole fleet is going, why would they need spares?....

I was highlighting the irony.....

Still, on the DC fitted units some parts could be used on the 73s still in original condition....

I misread sorry - I didn’t see the irony part!

Would be useful for some more 73/9s, but IMO I don’t see it happening with the modern alternatives available such as the 93s.

The class 56 has made it to Bournemouth! Here it is reversing at Branksome, less than an hour ago.

You must've been the guy I was chatting with, in the platform shelter at Branksome...

Saw a class 442 driving car is SWR colours (with some graffitI) on a low loader heading west on M4 motorway about 11:15 today, between junctions 16 and 17 (Swindon and Chippenham junctions)

Not sure why it was on M4

The M4 leads to the busiest rolling stock scrapyard in GB, in Newport?

That unit was parked in the western-most sidings at BM depot for many months. It might've come direct from BM, hence being on the M4.

Do you have the number off the unit please?

Does this also mean as well there is now only x4 442 to go by rail from Eastleigh/Bournemouth for scrap etc. Via wolverton.

Any further information much appreciated.

U.442413 was on 5Q81 2200 Bournemouth Depot to Eastleigh East Yard alongwith U.442420 brake force and locos
56081/73141/73201.

However the onward move today from Eastleigh East Yard to Wolverton was cancelled at the operators request so the formation
resides there.

According to live rail record 56081 is now at Wembley receptions.
Move concerned was 0z56 1335 eastleigh east yard to Wembley receptions 1 to 7 yard

I think it was 2418, though with all the comings and goings, I'm getting confused myself now...

Hard to keep up with what's going on with the 442's at the minute as they seem to be constantly on the move.
Is it right that only 2423 has actually gone to scrap so far with the others still just moving between Bournemouth-Eastleigh-Wolverton for part retention or have others actually gone off to meet their maker?

Quite a few have gone to wolverton only to be stripped than onwards to scrap by road to Newport. I believe 4 where already at wolverton awaiting conversion to be sent back to Bournemouth.
Only for the job to be stopped and no more 442 and they stayed there.
I also believe around 3 to 2 approximately are still at Bournemouth awaiting withdrawal and move to wolverton.
After tonight's move. Thursday 8th July 2021.
And around 8 off already gone including today's move to wolverton wed 7th July 2021.
However its believed the x4 already stripped and motor cars removed ones at eastleigh will get done by raxster.
However any further information and anyone kindly willingly and willing to post a list off all the recent moves and dates to wolverton ex Bournemouth.
Very kindly appreciated.

A few more have also (partially)met their end - numbers are 2201, 2205 scrapped motorcoach, 2207 scrapped motorcoach, 2212 scrapped motorcoach, 2224 scrapped motorcoach. 2201 'donated' a driving trailer to the NRM.

That's great, thanks very much.
Don't suppose we know the numbers of the scrapped carriages?

I think you mean 24xx rather than 22xx; they're not 4-BIGs! ;)

In addition all of u2421 has been scrapped.

Of the non-SWR units, the following have been cut, all by Raxstar at Eastleigh:
2401 62937 71818 71842 77406
2405 62944
2407 62943
2412 62947
2421 62957 71838 71862 77402 77426
2424 62960

73201, 2420 and 73141 arrived this evening at BM on the juice, without an accompanying class 66, to drag another one to Wolverton.

Units still at BM this evening were 2414, 2418 and 2422. My confusion over units present (in my post above) was compounded by certain publications showing wrong vehicle formations.
