Any news on the last few movements?
2406 and 2417 were already at Wolverton for re-tractioning, when the project was terminated.Slightly lost track here. Have 2406 and 2417 already gone?
Thanks. I guess they were the first to go to Newport.2406 and 2417 were already at Wolverton for re-tractioning, when the project was terminated.
Anything that goes to Wolverton i would presumeYesterday, June 29, i passed one 442 carriage on the M4 near Magor, heading towards Newport. A shiny refurbished one, about to be ripped apart. How many are going by road?
Presumably spares not unique to the 442s but applicable to other stock too.Stripping for spares......
Bit of an irony there, The whole fleet is going, why would they need spares?....
The spares are apparently needed for the 458 conversion project…Stripping for spares......

I misread sorry - I didn’t see the irony part!I was highlighting the irony.....
Still, on the DC fitted units some parts could be used on the 73s still in original condition....
You must've been the guy I was chatting with, in the platform shelter at Branksome...well that was a nice little line up of things to see unusual for a 56 to be on the move so had to go and see it
The M4 leads to the busiest rolling stock scrapyard in GB, in Newport?Saw a class 442 driving car is SWR colours (with some graffitI) on a low loader heading west on M4 motorway about 11:15 today, between junctions 16 and 17 (Swindon and Chippenham junctions)
Not sure why it was on M4
Do you have the number off the unit please? That unit was parked in the western-most sidings at BM depot for many months. It might've come direct from BM, hence being on the M4.
According to live rail record 56081 is now at Wembley receptions.U.442413 was on 5Q81 2200 Bournemouth Depot to Eastleigh East Yard alongwith U.442420 brake force and locos
56081/73141/73201.
However the onward move today from Eastleigh East Yard to Wolverton was cancelled at the operators request so the formation
resides there.
I think it was 2418, though with all the comings and goings, I'm getting confused myself now...Do you have the number off the unit please?
Does this also mean as well there is now only x4 442 to go by rail from Eastleigh/Bournemouth for scrap etc. Via wolverton.
Any further information much appreciated.
Quite a few have gone to wolverton only to be stripped than onwards to scrap by road to Newport. I believe 4 where already at wolverton awaiting conversion to be sent back to Bournemouth.Hard to keep up with what's going on with the 442's at the minute as they seem to be constantly on the move.
Is it right that only 2423 has actually gone to scrap so far with the others still just moving between Bournemouth-Eastleigh-Wolverton for part retention or have others actually gone off to meet their maker?
That's great, thanks very much.A few more have also (partially)met their end - numbers are 2201, 2205 scrapped motorcoach, 2207 scrapped motorcoach, 2212 scrapped motorcoach, 2224 scrapped motorcoach. 2201 'donated' a driving trailer to the NRM.
I think you mean 24xx rather than 22xx; they're not 4-BIGs!A few more have also (partially)met their end - numbers are 2201, 2205 scrapped motorcoach, 2207 scrapped motorcoach, 2212 scrapped motorcoach, 2224 scrapped motorcoach. 2201 'donated' a driving trailer to the NRM.
