Two more to shift 2415 and 2418 (2422 went last night).

Today's working was an hour early at Kew. Wonder how long it'll go into the "Black Hole" at Eastleigh for this evening?

Didn't recess at Eastleigh, so ran in its correct path. Same locos as last night.
Looks like it's 2418 for removal this evening.
Yes it was around 5 minutes or so early at south acton with 66722 on front with 73107 442418 442420 73128 on rear.
Only 442415 now to go tonight/tommorow.

They'll be another 442 in the formation as usual as a brake force runner - 2420. No more 442s left at BM after tonight's run. The sidings were looking very bare yesterday evening...

The up train (BM - Wolverton) will have x2 442 (2415 + 2420).
The down train (EH - BM) will have one 442 (2420).

Sorry if this is stupid question, but having emptied Bournemouth of them, why take one back there.

If it is last one, why not simply park it so can be dealt with after 2415

Forgot to mention, saw another 442 vehicle on a truck on Monday about 11:30am, heading south on M5 near Gloucester.

2420 has been used as a brake force runner. It must have accumulated quite a few miles going back and fro from Wolverton. But it's the last one this evening. The train is currently sat in Eastleigh East Yard.

The final time a pair of 442s were be coupled together at BM Depot, as 2415 joins 2420 for their journey to "the great beyond" this evening.

Well, that's that done then.

Was a nice abrupt end to down tools on site and stop work on these. As nice as the interiors were, they were a complete bag of bolts by the time they're leaving, too many years of "that'll do".

It is sad shame though with 66722 on front with 442415 442420 and 73108 on the rear once more.
Today heralds yet another momment in history when the 442 has finally gone from south west railways its traditional home off all times. And finally withdrawn from running on the network.
And most likely the Last pair to run.
And 442 today has also had its final day and time on the network. And another British rail fleet class sadly leaves us

Is 2410 still at Eastleigh?
Sadly no it went with 442419 on the 27th may 2021.
Also due to release issues into wolverton yard from wcml, stitched job up for a hour or so.
Also to confirm this further on you tube x2 videos on the 26th may 2021. From basingstoke to eastleigh and also is another daylight one on the 27th may 2021.
Yes 442410 is most likely at Newport Docks Simms sadly no longer with us.

I believe that only coaches from units U.2405 & U.2424 are still at Eastleigh Works, plus DTF of U.2401 for preservation.

U.2410 is at Wolverton.

Here's the announcement - 2401's A-end DTS to be preserved!

Northumbria Rail Ltd. 442 Announcement

We are happy to be able to announce that we have been granted ownership of 77382, the A end DTS (Driving Trailer Standard) from 442 401. This item is designated under the Railway Heritage Act 1996, and is being transferred from Angel Trains to ourselves for preservation. We would like to thank the Science Museum Group, Railway Heritage Designation Advisory Board for accepting our bid. We would also like to express our thanks once again to Arlington Fleet Group for their support and assistance.
There will be further details posted soon.

Northumbria Rail Ltd. 442 Announcement

Yes indeed - a proper press release will be provided this weekend. While it is a shame that it is just the one vehicle so far, it's excellent to see that it has been saved at last. It's future was looking very uncertain after the NRM / SMG decided they didn't want it anymore and as a result, scrap was at one point looking highly likely. 77382 has been tested and does still wake up, so all is not lost for it's new owners - I wish them all the very best with it!

One moot point though is that, once 420 is gone, there will be no more 442 motor coaches left. The vehicles stored in Eastleigh already scrapped by Raxstar, after they (and somewhat ironically) were stripped for spares for the SWR retained fleet.

would be nice to save a motor coach, due to their unique ness, is there any other train that has been built/looked quite modern but has used older technology/running gear in its build ?

some of thos irish mk2s i think it was had as front end that looked a bit like a wessex at a quick glance?

Have all of the ex SWR 442 carriages now departed Wolverton for scrapping or do some still exist there?
