Have received a settlement and a small fine. The train company seemed to be investigating the fare avoided for the journey.

You have done very well to be honest, pay it put it behind you and learn your lesson. This could have been much worse.

Thanks for letting us know - but can you clarify what you mean by a "fine"?
Only a court conviction can result in a fine, and that doesn't go with a "settlement." I'm not being pedantic, people may read this thread in future looking for help.

I assume you've paid something like the fare owing plus expenses plus a bit more (no need to specify!)?
