Nice, the /3s still look very smart so the above news was sort of expected. Thanks for the information on the /3s.:)

Do you know anything about the /4s and what the progress is on their refurb?

I wasn't sure what the state of the 350 refurb either. The /1s seem likely to be

Shame, I love the /1s refurb and I hoped the /3s would get the same treatment. At least it’ll be getting some of the upgrades.

I know that 401 (prototype refurb), 402 and 408 are done. I have a mate who feeds me his sightings whilst working. Hopefully he'll continue.

Are they changing the first class area in the ex-TPE units? The 2+1 comfy seats are a welcome change

Yep I’ve been on one with the nice seats and with the standard ones it’s not the same experience.

Unfortunately it's being downgraded to the same as the rest of them.

Do you know which /4s have been done as I have down 403 404 405 409 & 410 as unknown? Many thanks in advance!:)

That's a shame :(

At least the plug sockets are in the correct place on the refurb units (between the seats instead of on top of the radiator where I rest my foot)

It is a shame, I suppose easier charging of devices is something that's better though. Still I'd rather nicer seats still though. ;)

Earlier comments and questions about the 350/4s appeared on the 350/1 refurbishment thread and (not unreasonably) were regarded as off topic, but some questions remain (I think) unanswered.
The 350/4s in their original layout had the first class the full length between the doors. Has anyone noticed whether the bulkhead at one end has been moved to the position in the other sub-classes?
In the 350/1 refurb., the former conductor's office was converted into a luggage storage area. Is the catering trolley storage area in the /4s similarly treated? And, in the standard, presumably the original seating layout is retained, with a length of longitudinal (inward facing) seats near the extra lavatory (compared to the other sun classes) but does anyone know for sure?
Unfortunately, as I only travel for leisure so haven't been on a train since the first lock-down, I can't find out myself.

I've not been on one, but I understand this is the plan and is the reason the seating is being downgraded to 2+2. Doing so gains 8 Standard seats.

I read those answers about 4/s but that was weeks ago since then more have been refurbed.

Don't know if this helps but 350/4s will have the exact same 1st class as 350/1s by the end of the year.

When I went on an original /4, there was a catering type area still present. I haven't checked this on refurbed versions though. The longitudinal seats you mention I have seen becuase I recall walking through the train and saw some seats like you say and thought hmm... thats different.

Sometimes I can't get interior shots if there is people in them, I only get shots when the carriage is empty as it's a nicer photo.

I will try to investigate and get some more photos if possible tomorrow. I can't guarantee this though.

Thanks for that. If that is the case, it seems odd that the former conductor's office in the /1s doesn't also get replaced by seats - said to be structural considerations, but, in the /4s, there was a luggage pen against the bulkhead which one might have thought would create similar problems.
The total capacity in standard will be lower in the /4 s because of the extra lavatory/cycle space so I guess they need to squeeze in more in the composite.

Interestingly the "conductor's office" was never used as such on these units; it was a SWT thing where they didn't like their guards using the back cab for some reason, and the 350/1s were a diverted order for SWT.

The luggage racks are just bolt-down and can be moved. Indeed, they are being moved, half of them are being taken out of the /4s and put in /3s and possibly /1s, with the seats removed going the other way.

Thank you for the reply.
I also don't photograph with passengers present - I have heard of unpleasantness on public transport generally, with the police being called (won't elaborate, but there's sensitivities) . Sometimes a long wait 'til everyone gets off!
Just a bit intrigued how wifi charging points will be fitted to inward facing seats, but it's not a novel problem

I have a few 350 interior shots here showing refurbed /1s and original /4s and tomorrow I will be adding shots of a refurbed /4 too. As I say I will try to get to more shots tomorrow to illustrate the differences between the 350's in a visual format if I have the chance to.

The link below takes you to my shots of 350 interiors.

I do think it's a massive shame they aren't standardising on 2+1 First in the /1s and /3s, even if they had to lop a bay out to add the missing Standard seats in. I'd travel by LNR in 1st by default on the WCML (in preference to Avanti) if that was done.

I suppose the "new world" will probably bin the LNR Only fares in due course, though, negating this point. That said, if fares are equalised, you'd be a bit miffed if you got that sham 1st from a Trent Valley station as people paying similar fares shot through in their far posher Pendolinos.

They have fitted usb to the longitudinal seating on class 230's so it is possible. Yes it is a long wait for people to buggar off once the train has stopped!

On your 1st point It is, so would I.
On your second point - Yes exactly anyone would be miffed at paying for a 1st class seat thats worse than the standard class ones on 350's! And paying the same cost as getting on a pendo to get on a 350 1st class would be a bit underwhelming!

Have been advised that 350368/69/70/73/75 & possibly 371 have had the miniature refurb.

Ok noted.

I've been on 409 today and thats refurbed and 403 which is not refurbed yet.

I have a vid of 350401 when it was new to TPE on test in Preston station.

Nice, was that filmed in 1990? Judging by the resolution it was! Still it is now a valuable memory as they are very different now I suppose.
