Avanti ticket issues between Christmas & New Year

Is anyone having any success in booking Avanti tickets between Christmas and New Year?

I'm trying to book a journey between Abergavenny and Aberdeen which always includes an Avanti Leg from Crewe to Edinburgh. I'm only being given options via Manchester (TPE) or Birmingham & York (XC & LNER).

If its travel on 27th/28th I suspect its the TfW thats the issue. Engineering work between Prees and Crewe. National Rail Enquiries - Future engineering work

At the moment, slightly contrary to the above, the journey planner is showing buses between Shrewsbury and Crewe all day.
