The 37/27 combo was a pleasant surprise.
I never knew S19 started back at Paignton. Was that a summer Saturdays only thing?18.38 Paignton - Glasgow 1S19
I believe it was during certain period's in the summer as well as Pz.It was a dreadful train especially if you were going all the way on it with all the diverts ie over canock ,Chester triangle ,S/C and the GSW also via Manchester .If i remember rightly there was an additional to S19 one year i believe it was S23 .I never knew S19 started back at Paignton. Was that a summer Saturdays only thing?
Plus the diversions via Worcester when a 37 would get attached to the front as a pilot loco.I believe it was during certain period's in the summer as well as Pz.It was a dreadful train especially if you were going all the way on it with all the diverts ie over canock ,Chester triangle ,S/C and the GSW also via Manchester .If i remember rightly there was an additional to S19 one year i believe it was S23 .
The worst one that I had, the train was 2 hours late from Bristol due to problems in Cornwall. After doing the Chester triangle we got stuck in a block at Carnforth and had to wait for the work to be completed. Eventually getting to Edinburgh 6 hours late.I believe it was during certain period's in the summer as well as Pz.It was a dreadful train especially if you were going all the way on it with all the diverts ie over canock ,Chester triangle ,S/C and the GSW also via Manchester .If i remember rightly there was an additional to S19 one year i believe it was S23 .
I remember the Worcester pilot i seem to recall i had 37219 on it for two consecutive weekends but the last time i had it was on the mule some years back, as you say happy days indeed.Plus the diversions via Worcester when a 37 would get attached to the front as a pilot loco.
Happy days.
Quite a day!Saturday 29th May 1999
Plenty of good moves there. Looking forward to the rest!Just realised I did my 1st All Line 4 years ago, so a few days catch up listed. My aim was to travel on all remaining loco hauled services and pick up some bits of track.

Indeed. There was back then a few weeks when all manor of 37s turned up on the North Wales Coast. Some issue with the 37/4s I believe. Only had the one day myself, but that was pretty good!Quite a day!
Oddly I remember what I was doing on that day. Was only still a child but we went on a beach trip to Colwyn Bay (not by train sadly), it was hot and sunny.TUESDAY 30th MAY 1978:
As a regular 80s Direct user I pick up on subtle details about these sorts of workings. it looks like (from your earlier postings) May 1978 was when this service went over from 12VEP to 8VEP/4CIG (as it was in the 80s).Another after-work Crompton bash:
7741/7736/7387 Petersfield-Waterloo (06 23 from Portsmouth Harbour)
8SUB, which very much dates this as a period "before my time", hence why your late-70s posts are so fascinating.4645/4662 Wimbledon-Waterloo (17 15 from Horsham)
33s on Exeter services, likewise. Incidentally one thing I do remember from the 80s is how a couple of named examples, "The Burma Star" and "Earl Mountbatten of Burma", were seen as being rare and hard to see. Not sure why, but they didn't appear on services through Woking much (and I never actually saw them...)33 001 19 10 Waterloo-Woking (to Exeter SD. Consist: W3127/5489/5457/14080/1772/3087/5363 Load 7 AB/EH)
BIGs on '82's, and VEP/BIG combos (both of which have come up in a previous thread) does also!7747/7055 Woking-Petersfield (19 20 Waterloo-Portsmouth Harbour)
7736 was involved in the collision outside Portsmouth Harbour station on 27th April 1980. I believe that its two undamaged vehicles were reformed into 7847, with which it had collided.I also remember 7736 didn't appear to exist in the 80s. It was missing from the Ian Allan books.
