Is this the first time a class 221 super voyager has worked a Glasgow to London train via the Trent valley instead of the usual class 390? It is running today as a 10 carriage double unit.

It is working the 1M16 1520 Glasgow Central to London Euston

Could this be due to the Rutherglen engineering works causing a lack of class 390s at Polmadie ?

390s are cleared for the Circle (at least via Mount Florida), you have an early morning Glasgow - Euston service which is booked that way on Saturdays (04:26)

Didn't realise there was still a booked service that way.

Perhaps Pendolinos aren't cleared for the Cathcart Circle Lines?
The train I was on on March 24 was booked via Mount Florida because of the engineering works at Rutherglen; all the services that weekend were running via Mount Florida. I don't know if all the drivers sign Mount Florida? (I am curious as to whether they're cleared for Shawlands and whether the drivers sign it, though! Never known any to go that way?)

It's certainly rare for 221s to form Glasgow to Euston via the Trent Valley services, there certainly aren't any booked workings as far as I'm aware. Coincidentally, the service the OP refers to got delayed at Preston, with the 221s swapped with a Pendo due to a diagramming error:

9M59 (17:01 CAR-EUS) set 390152 & 1M16 (15:20 GLC-EUS) sets 221109/221112 set swap Preston.

Does that mean they actually kicked everyone off each train to swap them over? I presume the CAR-EUS wouldn't have made in on time for the needed return working?

Looking at RTT it was booked to be a voyager today.

The first VT from Glasgow Central (0549 departure) was formed of just 221143 up until Wolverhampton where 221107 joined it today.

I believe XC voyagers are were terminating at Motherwell so not sure if its a pathing issue or driver knowledge . Been on 390 through Mt Florida once , looks a bit tight at Crosshill though . Are they cleared on the Maxwell Park side ?
Yeah Euston to Glasgow via trent valley have been voyagers in past .Does happen.

Booked a single set then onto the back of an awaiting (empty) at Wolves isn't it? Unless it has changed in the last couple of years.

Servives via the Trent are all booked to be 390s but there have been other instances where 221s have been used. A good few years back a single Voyager worked the 1630 Euston - Glasgow after an incident.

390s were working through Mount Florida today. Interesting given the crowds there boarding and alighting from football trains.

I don't think XC have as much route knowledge around the Glasgow suburbs as the previous East Coast operation did. EC often used HSTs for off wire routes around Glasgow which at that time there were a few.

Their drivers have knowledge via Shotts mainly and not via Mount Florida.

1M07 06:30 Glasgow Central to London Euston was this morning very unusually formed of 221116 and 221105 (IIRC, can't remember the set numbers for certain) vice the usual Pendolino, presumably as a result of yesterday's disruption.
