I suspect this might have actually been 345007 returning to Ilford yesterday since 345008 appears to have been reported at Old Oak Depot later in the day. There doesn't appear to have been a movement in the other direction.

You are right it was 345 007 that got dragged over yesterday, I saw it go through Forest Gate that afternoon behind 37800.

Has anyone seen 345060 working this week. TIA
345060 appears to have worked west side Thursday finishing 5Y25 1928 London Paddington to Old Oak Depot (so would have been at Maidenhead overnight Wednesday and during the day Thursday). (I don't think there is any problem asking for TOPS requests for 345s in the usual threads.)

Edit - it also appears to have worked Heathrow services today ending 5Y27 2332 London Paddington to Old Oak Depot.

Following on from the discussion above re 345008, are you able to confirm whether 345008 is now a 9-car or not, and if a 9-car when it is expected to enter service (or perhaps that's rather a long shot!).
345008 was confirmed as a 9-car by an observation in message 4425. Not obvious what usual practice is about entering service.

I'm not sure what is happening on Signalmaps today 9Y63 seems to be everywhere. Perhaps they have the new infinite improbability drive installed?

Is 016 now in nine car formation?
That would appear very unlikely. It has only been at Old Oak Depot since last week and is being taken by locomotive around the North London Line. Any unit converted to 9-car is likely to be tested west side before anything else.

Previous postings have noted that, even for 7-car units, there is some work that can only be done at Old Oak Depot and not Ilford.

345001 just left Old Dalby, heading down to Old Oak Common. Being dragged down to London by graffiti-covered 37800. 001 is in a 9 car formation.

Took some photos of it passing through Melton Mowbray.

Is it formed with its own 3404xx and 3406xx vehicles - ie 340401 and 340601?

Is unit 001 in passenger configuration (fully fitted with seats, no test equipment etc). It must be over 4 years old now, so must be one of the longest before entering service.

Achdung. Probably still formed with two coaches from 345022. I seem to recall 345022 is still 7 car ?.

But then again I would not be surprised if 345001 stays formed with the "wrong" coaches for the rest of its life. So thus 345022 will be a mongrel as well. But it might be even more complicated (and still permanent) than just two mongrels !.

345001 appears to have worked to Reading last evening on:
2039 Old Oak Depot to Reading

2202 Reading to London Paddington
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K86322/2021-09-14/detailed
2321 London Paddington to Reading

0021 Reading to Old Oak Depot
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:61225/2021-09-15/detailed

The trail goes a bit cold at Maidenhead on the second circuit as it appears it may have terminated there and gone back to Old Oak Depot.

A similar schedule is in for this evening too.

Thanks for the update Jonathan. Do you (or anyone else) know whether its formed with its own 3404xx and 3406xx carriages, or those from set 22? Many thanks

Today at Twyford:-
345026/055/058/004/068 on OP services (068 was new to me)
345054 on 5G52/53
345001 on 5G78(?)/5G79 - no chance of carriage ID's @ line speed!
Regards, Alan

I had my first ride on one today. One thing I noticed was they seemed to approach stations very slowly - rolling gently along the platform to a stop.. I kind of expected them to brake hard to a stop?
Was I imagining it, or is there a reason for it?

Must have just been a careful driver. I doubt it’ll be like that at high frequencies in the core

Regenerative braking. I do the same in my Toyota Prius.

ATO braking is more abrupt but not as bad as on the Victoria Line.

Out in the open for me my braking depends how much dwell time i’ll have at the station as to how i’ll approach it.

I imagine that most crossrail drivers are new so haven't perfected stopping on a dime yet.

Also slow approaches to the station hide the high amount of dwell time at each station.

I believe the train runs automatically in the core so the driver won't be manually braking most of the Time

There are some interesting trial runs today on Crossrail with destinations on GEML rather than Abbey Wood.

Well spotted, I note the morning ones got cancelled leaving only Abbey Wood and Westbourne Park. But now seems to be rather busy out onto the GEML !. Testing the interface between core and GEML I guess ?.

It’s trial running - so more akin to scenario-based “testing” than testing per se - the interface is tested and commissioned (and has been for several months now, hence why stock transfers can go via the COS)

Of course, I forgot that (my bold).
