After the departure of the GUV from Brockenhurst (see https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...ke-hire-place-at-brockenhurst-station.217949/) maybe one could be placed on the now vacant track length. Some local entrepreneur could run it as a restaurant specialising in pulled porkIs there any further use planned for the remaining carriages? (and before anyone says anything I don't mean harebrained ideas for loco haulage, I mean things like target practice for the army, or fire service training etc
But ultimately there's nothing radical about the 442s, it's not as if they were a massive technological or "marketing" shift forward. The NRM aren't known for their logical decision making - just look at flying moneypit... I'd totally agree that this is worth of a place in the NRM but suspect they filed it under the 'too difficult' category as it's not a kettle.
The 442s were impressive and had a few unique features, but I agree there's nothing massively special about them, not that would particularly entice normals to go and see them in a museum. It's a shame they'll all go, but it isn't possible to save everything. But ultimately there's nothing radical about the 442s, it's not as if they were a massive technological or "marketing" shift forward.
Yes they're EMUs and have the powered doors that all Mk3 carriages should have had, but it hardly makes them museum worthy. A Class 313, as the start of a whole new generation of trains, was far more important
I was thinking exactly along the same lines. Bournemouth Belle, Brighton Belle revixit!imagine one painted in Pullman brown/cream....might look half decent as some mk2ds or what ever they are look quite good in that livery
